Unable to open books
So about two months ago I had to buy a new laptop because I broke my old one. Since I lost everything I had to re download books. I couldn't remember by adobe login and got no held from adobe, so some of the books I downloaded my kobo won't open. As well some of my much older ones wont download at all, it says I reached my total number of downloads, and I didn't know that was possible.
I contacted Kobo eventually by email and it took them 5 days to respond. I emailed back because they were no help and it was another 8 days before I got a response and they directed me to Adobe. I emailed back once again and have gotten no response what so ever. So for two months I have been trying to open ten or so books that I can not ![]() ![]() |

![]() First off, do you see the missing books in Kobo Desktop for PC? Are you aware that you can download the kepub formatted ebooks that are in Kobo Desktop for PC into Calibre, by using the obok plugin? Did you have Calibre installed in your previous PC? Did you have any/all your ebooks in Calibre? Did you have a copy/backup of Calibre? Questions, questions, but it will help us to help you ..... ![]() |

With the kobo desktop app, I see my books, but the app won't open PDF books, well it wont even download them. It instead gives me a pop up that says "Connection to Internet Problem", but all the other ones will download and open no problem. So yeah the ones I have been trying to download again even directly from kobo website, are all my very old PDF's. As for Calibre, I have not a clue what that is. I did not have everything backed up, I do now because I learned that lesson. I used to just download books, put them all in a file and open on Adobe Digital Editions because I buy from multiple sites. I lost what Adobe email or password I had used originally for my old account, so I had to make a new one, but the ones I can download from Kobo that are my older PDF's wont open in adobe anymore, which I get is an Adobe issue and not a kobo issue. The main problem I have with kobo right now is the old PDF's that refuse to download because it says i've reached my max number of times I can. |

Okay, a couple of important preservation things first off - use Calibre as your ebook library manager, and immediately you buy an ebook, in any format, and have downloaded it either in ADE or Kindle for PC, import it into Calibre using Alf's Tools.
Here is the link to Calibre: http://calibre-ebook.com/ Here is the link to Apprentice Alf: https://apprenticealf.wordpress.com/ You will likely need some help, so go to the Calibre forum within MR https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=236 Ask for help in Alf's comments section: https://apprenticealf.wordpress.com/...sted/#comments Okay, with respect to getting at your pdf ebooks, do you see them on your Kobo ereader? (Which ereader do you have btw?) If you can see them and open them on your ereader, then you will be able to import them to Calibre, where you will be able to convert them if you want. And I agree with you re Kobo not being able to download your PDF's - that is a Kobo issue and the Kobo help desk should be able to address that. But, I'm assuming that you can still see them in your kobobooks.com Library? Also, go into your Purchase History because they will be in there if Kobo wants further evidence of your purchase. Good luck - I've gotta dash out (well, Mothers Day here and all that!). ![]() Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 05-09-2015 at 08:46 PM. |
