Thumbs up Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes) Escape into Daylight [Vintage YA Suspense Thriller]

Escape into Daylight by the late British novelist Geoffrey Household (SYKM, Wikipedia), whom you may know best from his classic thriller novel Rogue Male (Wikipedia) which was apparently adapted into a number of films and radio dramas (including as Fritz Lang's Man Hunt (Wikipedia), which I happen to own on Blu-Ray), is his vintage tween/YA mystery/suspense adventure thriller starring plucky kids held captive by persons unknown, who find that escape is not necessarily the ticket to freedom that it seems, free courtesy of publisher Open Road Media, who are e-printing it from its 1976 Bodley Head Children's Books edition.

Apparently this one is being freebied to help promote ORM's recent re-releases of Household's adult-level thriller and other-genre old school classics (only available to the US, it would seem, but couponable @ Kobo, in case there's something of his you really liked way back when that you were hoping would come back into print).

Currently free, just for today (May 28th), as one of ORM's sporadic non-public domain daily freebies @ B&N, Amazon, Kobo, & iTunes (none available to Canadians), and probably also Google Play US.

Unlikely to cross the pond in any direction, as Orion still holds the rights for this worldwide (or at least in British Commonwealth countries), and ORM have very rarely made their freebies available outside of North America.

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because getting another ORM non-PD freebie (in addition to their generous ongoing weekdaily public domain reprint ones) alone would be cause to , and getting a vintage adventure novel from a late author who was apparently a modern classic author of such (and one of whose works I kind of "know" from adaptation), as well as having his backlist brought back into availability, is a very nice treat for Gentle Readers (of vintage thrillers) indeed.

Enjoy!

Description
Two children held captive in a remote, abandoned abbey must escape . . . or die

At first, Mike believes he must be dreaming when he opens his eyes to total darkness. But before long, the awful truth becomes apparent: He is being held captive somewhere underground by persons unknown. At least he is not alone in this dank, cold, dungeonlike place; a frightened young girl named Carrie is trapped there alongside him, equally unsure of why she is there.

With no light, food, water, or answers, and no obvious way out, their situation seems hopeless. While Carrie is a city girl born and bred, Mike is a resourceful boy, at home in the English countryside, and he refuses to let them die in this terrible place. But escape may not be the end of the nightmare, for the world surrounding them holds mysteries beyond their imaginings.

A prolific storyteller and peerless creator of page-turning adventure, Geoffrey Household has been praised by the New York Times for having “helped to develop the suspense story into an art form.” With Escape into Daylight, he demonstrates the wide range of his remarkable talents, delivering an electrifying thriller that will appeal to readers of every age.

Unfortunately, Kobo's developed this annoying habit in recent weeks of expiring ORM freebies and daily deals well before the usual midnight Eastern Time server switchover, again.

I hope they have it fixed soon. Again.

Thanks for the Google Play US link, BTW. I can't even see those from Canada without having to do some major VPN IP proxy hoop-jumping.

They also sometimes have the next day's freebie 12 or more hours early; one recently was listed free on the search page, but full price on the detail page (by repeatedly clicking to get the free book on the search page, I managed to get it into my library, but that doesn't always work).
