Kindle+Smartphone
I was late coming to cell phones. That might be because I'm not totally but significantly deaf. I did finally get a phone and I text with friends. I was pleasantly surprised to find I can read on my Nexus 5 phone with a Kindle app. I have a Kindle with me 95% of the time but occasionally I am caught in line at the phone company or waiting for a friend in a store and it's handy to pull out my cellphone and read a bit. I would not want to have a smartphone, or a tablet, as my only ereader, though.
I'm wondering how many others have a Kindle+smartphone combo for reading? |

I read on my phone in emergencies, but the screen on my Voyage is so much easier on the eye that there's really no contest.

Are you really asking specifically about having a Kindle, or about any E-Ink based ebook reader?
I carry both my Nook and my iPhone 5. I won't read on the iPhone, unless there's no alternative. |

My phone (an "ancient" Droid X2) actually gets more use as a Reader than I thought it would. Since I always have it with me, when I get stuck waiting somewhere, it's nice to be able to "pick up the book where I left off" and read a few chapters. At home I always have my Kindle, so the phone gets very little use for reading in the house.

I get most of my books from Amazon, but I do have other ebooks, and ebook sources. I add all of my books to calibre and I email them to my Amazon Kindle cloud so I go sync my reading to my Kindle PW2, my Iphone, and my Nexus 7. While I prefer to read on the PW2 there are times that I read on either the Iphone or Nexus.

While my Fire Phone makes an excellent reader in case of emergencies, I always have an eink reader with me (either the Kindle Voyage or the Kobo Glo HD) and I would only use the phone if for some (catastrophic) reason, I couldn't use the e-ink reader.

Since this is in the Kindle forum, the question was for a Kindle. I suppose I could have posted in the "General" forum but I didn't.

I bought a used Sony 350 to have a pocket sized reader to use when out (mainly at work) but while I still like it, for sheer ease of use I now just use my phone. I can use Dropbox to download the book I'm currently reading at home on my Kindle and then read it with Moon Reader. Its fine for short periods, but if I was going to be reading anything more than a few chapters at a time, the eink ereader would be the winner. Probably 99% of my reading is done on my Kindle though.

I don't have a smartphone, just a really old flipphone. I do have an iPod Touch with the Kindle app on it, but if I don't take my Kindle with me (which I ordinarily do), I have to manually sync my current book, because I have syncing turned off. My husband and I both have Kindles, and often read the same books, so it wouldn't work to have Amazon sync them for us.

I sideload my books (epubs) to my eink readers but I don't bother to put them on phone or tabletty things. My game plan is to have a reader plus a phone and/or tablet with me always, but just in case I have a few books plus an audio book downloaded on all the LCD gadgets. You never know and I don't want to be caught with nothing to read. It won't be what I'm already reading, but that hardly matters if the alternative is nothing at all.
