Copy email settings and addresses from one computer to another.

I am moving my Calibre library from my old laptop to my new one. I copied the library folder from one to the other and set that folder as the library location on the new install of Calibre. It opened the library perfectly with the exception of all the email settings (account to use, the 10 addresses I had set to email to, etc) and the virtual libraries. none of which are on the new computer. Is there a way to copy these settings or do they all have to be recreated on the new computer?

Thanks!

Note that copying configurations like this is not officially supported, but if you're lucky, it will just work.

(This is a blatent copy of a post of Kovid's - it's always worked for me. thread link)

But a smarter person than I might give you more detailed instructions.

Thanks for the information! I think (since it isn't supported anyway) that I will just re-do it from scratch, and use this opportunity to change from using my gmail address to a new GMX address. Recreating virtual libraries isn't that big of a deal either.

Seems to me though, that this is something that should be stored in the library in such a way that pointing a new Calibre install at it would pick this information up. I know it isn't that big of a deal but still everything else just works, why not this as well.

Copying the entire Config folder is a good way. You may need to Switch/Create to point (adjusts the path) to the current desired library

BTW VLs are part of the Library (DB). When you copy a LIBRARY Folder, you get any VL you had with that Library

The folders:
Config= User settings/prefs, Plugins, special views,dictionaries
Library= Library Books, custom columns, Metadata

That's interesting, because none of my virtual libraries are on the new computer. Do they need to be opened or something? <edit> Never mind, I found them, in my case, they were no longer open but were still listed in the 'Virtual Library' menu. Sorry for the confusion. <edit>

I have already re-installed the extra plugins I had (only one, the excellent resize cover plugin) and re-entered the email settings. But should I have to move it again, I will try moving the config folder as well to see if that works. Thanks!

The VL is probably there, but the (tab) View got lost and needs to be re-opened.
Did your (saved) searches appear in the tag browser?

If by that you mean the drop down box labeled Saved Searches then, no. there are no searches there.

I was able to find the virtual libraries, there were not open as you suggested, and I can select a virtual library to display it, but how do I get the tab view back?

Thanks!

That worked perfectly. Thanks!

Apparently I can't give you Karma since I have only given Karma to one other since I gave it to you before So I am sending you virtual karma here...

The show_vl_tabs setting is of course a calibre-wide setting, not specific to a particular library. It is set in
Code:
[configuration folder]/gui.json
Assuming all libraries are restored to the same location on the new computer (requires using the same username, usually), then copying over the configuration folder should work perfectly.

Otherwise, the list of libraries will report your libraries as missing and ask you to select the new location for each one. That *should be* the only compatibility issue. While not "officially" supported, it is a pretty darn good bet.
