Problem with calibre 2.23 and row height

Hi,

I've just installed calibre 2.23 and I've seen that the row height has changed (it's bigger). Even with -15px (the limit), the rows are taller than before. I don't know what's happening. If it's because of a new Qt version, could the negative limit be increased?

What Interface font?
I use Arial 11pt with a -5 px spacing
That leaves ~1em combine whitespace between the text

My font is MS Shell Dlg 2 [8pt] (No change from default font).

Your 2.23 image matches the proportion I see (with my settings)

What you see must be a combination of OS (screen) settings, font size and the row fudge-factor interacting

There's only a problem. It's the same machine and monitor with a difference of two minutes, more or less (I have a portable version). And yes, I like a small font

@Terisa de morgan - some time back I had problems with the default font. I can't recall details, but at the time I didn't perceive it as a calibre issue.

I changed to Verdana 8pt with -11 row height, it worked and gave me a similar number of rows in the same window size. Pretty sure it was post 2.0 release; I have a vague notion that I may have futzed with the Windows Display Settings to resolve an issue in <not calibre>.

Since reinstalling Windows (new SSD) MS Shell Dlg appears to be OK; however, given it wasn't broken I retained Verdana. I get the same 41 rows in 2.23 as in all previous 2.x releases.

I wonder if you've stumbled on the same issue as me, try these settings

I'm not having problems adjusting my row height, really, but the icons for yes/no columns (green check and red x) don't resize smaller when you adjust the font size. I noticed after installing v2.24 that those icons looked unusually large for the row height (and larger than previous to the install), so wondered if there was a way to make them smaller - in proportion to the text size of row height.

I think you're onto something. I have tried decreasing the row spacing clear down to -20, as well as fonts and font size, with no change whatsoever.

The icons DO seem to be the limiting factor here -- so I second your question whether changing the icon size relative to the font/row height is feasible. I'd certainly like to get back to an increased number of entries per screen.

If that's the case than there should not be a problem. But I noticed that there is no diffence in linespacing between -10 and -20 what so ever.
I used in the past -11 which gave me a smaller line spacing than -20 with the latest version. Same font (verdana 8 pt)
Any suggestion?

I have the same problem with linespacing after installing Calibre 2.25 (had 2.16 before). Using -20 and the spacing is bigger than I had with -7 in the previous version.

Edit: I use the system default style, not calibre style. Line spacing works fine with calibre style, but doesn't work properly with the system default.

Negative row height are subtracted from the default row height, but the total row height is still limited by what Qt believes to be the minimum row height needed to render text. That in turn depends on the font size and Qt itself. The former you can control in Preferences->Look & Feel. The latter you can do nothing about.
