How long does a Kobo Gift Card take to activate

I bought me a Kobo Gift Card today to celebrate the arrival of my first e reader. When I try to redeem it, I get this message: There was an error processing your Gift Card. Check your Gift Card details and try re-entering them.

But I've re entered them many times and I keep getting the message. I have searched the message on Google and I only get directed to the kobo FAQ page. As it's my first time using a Kobo GC I don't know how long it takes to activate since you purchase it. I would've thought It would've been available straight away.
Anyway. Any ideas?
I've sent an inquiry in the mean time.

That does sound unusual that it didn't activate straight away, but I haven't personally used a gift card just going off what's been posted in the Discounts thread.

I don't have specific experience with Kobo gift cards but I have seen on other cards on display at cash registers that it may take up to 24 (I think) hours to activate. Might be worth calling Kobo to check.

You should be able to use it right after it's activated. I would take it back to the store and exchange it for another card, as long as you have your receipt.

I have used Kobo gift cards many times, and activation is almost immediate.

It sounds like the store you bought the Kobo gift card from did not activate the card.

You can try and return the card at the store, but most gift cards are considered to be final sale.

Hi guys thanks for the answers. I've spoken to a guy in Kobo customer service and it seems ASDA's checkout operator forgot to activate it. I'll go today again to see if something can be done. I am now a bit concerned in case they thought I used the card and I am just trying to get another one. But I guess they've got ways to know if the card is activated or not.

I can show them my 0 balance account and 0 purchases history and the conversation I had with Kobos customer service.
