New to this - how to use my own metadata?

I'm having a problem when putting MOBI books on my (very old) Kindle Touch. If I edit any metadata in Calibre, the changes seem to save, but once I transfer the book to my Kindle, it reverts back to the original metadata that I changed.

I'm sure I got it to work correctly a couple years ago, but for the life of me I can't remember how.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thank you very much.

I tried converting one book to AZW3 and, at least for that book, that seemed to do the trick, so I'll keep trying it.

The Polish option is good for doing this and several other bulk update things too. Select book(s) press P and check the items you want to do.

If the books are dual-MOBI, calibre cannot update the metadata fields properly. The KindleUnpack plugin can help you extract only the newer AZW3 component, which will then work properly.

Better this than conversions, which are by nature lossy.
