Aura HD '< Books' not working

Hi,

I am sorry if this is addressed in another thread, I couldn't find it though.

I bought my Aura HD a couple of months ago and now when I am reading a book and want to go back to the library and I touch "< Books" it gets highlighted (black background) but it won't do nothing, just stays like that forever. What I have been doing is touch on the house at the top left corner and go back to the Home screen and then chose another book.

Anyone has this problem too? What can I do?

Mmmm ..... not sure I can be of much help as to how you want to get back to the library, except to say that I bookmark the page I'm on and then do as you do, I touch the home screen house icon and go back that way.

I suppose there may be different ways to do it though.

I can't help either, except to say that the <Books button works normally on my Glo with firmware 3.13.1, and I didn't notice any problem with it in earlier firmware vesions.

What happens if you search for a book and open it from the search results list? Does the <Search Results button return you to the search list?

I'll back GeoffR's statement and question. It works here on all my Kobo ereaders.

I do feel I've had an occasion where it didn't, but I think I opened the book somehow differently. It was something like opening a book from the library and then, without closing the book, searching for another book, opening the details of that book and then opening the book. I think it got lost going back and I had to get out by using the home button. But, it didn't affect any later uses of the "<books" button.

One thing I can suggest is that if you are not running formware version 3.13.1, try installing that and see what happens. Maybe a new firmware version will fix your problem.

I've used 3 different firmware versions on my H2O and <books worked on all of them. I never did try the firmware the H2O shipped with as after I registered, I downloaded and installed 3.11.0.

I don't use that method to get back to my library often at all, when I tried it, I thought "uh oh, it doesn't work for me either, it just sits there highlighted in black." But staring at it long enough, it finally did what it was supposed to and bring me to the library. It's like the first time you try to use it, it might be doing some internal catalog sorting or something. After that initial time, it's been a near instant transition to the library.

I'm guessing the more books you have on the reader, that initial use of it might take longer. Are you giving it enough time and just see if waiting it out doesn't finally bring up the library?

I have installed firmware 3.12.1 and I keep syncing my kobo every other week. Shouldn't that firmware be installed by now?! I am getting worried now.

I never used that and did now. The result is exactly the same, it just sits there highlighted and won't go back to the library. Oh noes..

I left it alone with the '< Books' button highlighted and it went to sleep after 15 minutes then I woke it up and it continued highlighted. I left it more 20 minutes and there was not change at all. XD

Anyway, for now I will continue to use the home button and then the library one.

Kobo rolls out firmware on odd schedules depending on where you bought it. You can edit a file within the reader, or manually install the update. Read the first few posts in this thread, making sure you download the correct firmware for your reader.

If you want to edit the file and Kobo should then download the firmware on its own, the file you edit is located in the .kobo directory on the reader. Open up the affiliate.conf file in a text editor, change it to read:

[General]
affiliate=BestBuyCA

Save it and turn on the wife and see if it doesn't update immediately. Since I've set mine to BestBuyCA, I get the firmware updates on the first day.

I changed the affiliate.conf file but it didn't update. I checked the thread you gave the link above and it says there that firmware 3.11.1 was released "for the Glo and Aura H2O only. Touch, Mini and Aura are excluded." So it seems it is not for the Aura HD?

Touch, Mini and Aura are excluded." And then further it gives a link to download the firmware for "Mark 4 Hardware: Glo (+ Aura HD)."

I'd wait until someone else who knows what's up with that firmware posts. I haven't updated lately and still on 3.12.0 because it's been so perfect, no bugs that I've noticed. But I did turn on wifi to see what would sync, and what downloaded was 3.12.1. So 3.13.1 might really be only for Japan models?

Now to get my patches installed for a nothing update.

Yes, firmware 3.13.1 was released only for Japanese users and only for the Glo and H2O. The release was timed for when the H2O became available in Japan. But, manually installing the firmware on other devices is safe. The firmware has been tested on these devices and lots of people here are using it.

I've occasionally had this problem of the inactive highlighted return button, on more than one FW (I'm on 3.13.1 now). Not often enough to bother me, I just pick home.

I think I will just live with it and hope it will be fixed with some new firmware.

I have tried again a search and then going back and this time it worked after 2 or 3 seconds. But the "< books" button is still unresponsive.

An odd thing I noticed was that I performed a basic reset and then I decided to select another language. And all was in the new language BUT the "< books" button - it was still in English. Something fishy is going on... LOL

Why is the kobo software so buggy?

Upgrade to 3.13.1. There were some translation problems in 3.12.1. They were fixed for 3.13.1.
