Real Newbie Question

I think I know the answer but I want to be sure before I hit delete. If I have a copy of a book on my computer and I "add" it to Calibre does it actually get copied to a new location (i.e. my "onedrive" or is it just creating a shortcut? In other words can I delete the original file after adding it to Calibre?

yes, calibre makes a copy in its library and you can delete the original

All books are copied to your C:\Program Files\calibre\Calibre Library\

Absolutely not!!!

C:\Program Files is for program files ONLY, just like /usr/bin/

Portable calibre stores the program files together with the library, but but in its own special folder most likely on a flashdrive.

Normally the library is at "%USERPROFILE%\Calibre Library" (or "~/Calibre Library").
