Exposing Calibre Server externally

I,
I have a windows 8 setup. I suppose there could be dangers exposing calibre server port externally.
Are there good "guidelines" to do this ?
Is there any logging of access requests ?

Exposing anything externally can have dangers. Use care and all available Router and firewall features to restrict the exposure.
IMHO avoid port 8080. Use 808x where x is a random digit

Set a password, too.

Also note: logs are kept in the appdata folder. I believe there is also a button in Preferences ==> Sharing over the net to view them, I'd confirm if I wasn't mobile ATM.
