My iPad Air just lost its marbles
My iPad won't turn on. I did the thing of holding down the power button on top of the device and nothing happened. I took it out of its case and tried again. I put it back in its case, and when after I closed the case, I noticed the screen was glowing, so I opened the case to see the device was restarting. I thought everything was great until I got to the sign-in screen and it wouldn't accept input from the keyboard.
When the screensaver was on, it showed the battery to be at 82%. Something is very screwy. At the moment it's back to doing nothing. |

After several more attempts at holding down the power button, each followed a mysterious lag of several minutes of not touching the device only to have it restart on its own but still not allowing me to log in, I tried a new tact. After the holding down the button for a long time then waiting for the device to restart suddenly as if acting on its own accord, rather than swiping to the sign on screen, I held down the power button again. This last time, that action was followed by the appearance of the familiar "Power Off" option. I swiped it, and the device shut down. When I restarted it, all was right with the world.
![]() I have no idea what initiated this weird behavior, but I hope this doesn't portend something more ominous in the near future. |

iOS 8.x is crap. That's probably why it went south.

I have had a lot of blue screens with my iPad Air, basically the issues described in this thread. My theory is that something is wrong with the RAM. I only run one app at a time, and that seems to decrease the frequency of the BSOD crashes.

The only issues I've had with iOS 8.x have been with apps that haven't updated to be compatible with it. I think we all have some "dead" apps that the developers no longer update. But so far it has worked quite well on my iPad Mini Retina and my iPhone 6 Plus.
But it seems that each iThingie I've owned in the past has had a different set of issues, if it had any issues at all. Most have been issue free. My first iPad 1 worked well for 6 months then the screen looked like a colorful explosion of lines and dither patterns. It was replaced. My iPad Mini Retina has WiFi issues wherein it periodically slows down WiFi speed to less than 1 MBs from the usual 20 MBs. A restart takes care of that, but it is annoying. It sounds like the Air has had quite a few quirks from what I read. But I suspect it is more hardware related than iOS related. |

Today it seems to be working fine. I don't think it was a problem with the RAM because 71 of the 128GB on the device are free. The only other problem I've had is that sometimes Swype doesn't want to play with Safari, but a trip to settings usually fixes that until next time. That occasional glitch is probably just an incompatibility problem between those apps that will be fixed by a future update of one or the other.
FWIW I'm running iOS 8.2. |

If it happens again you might consider restoring from an iCloud backup. That Restore function fixed a problem I had a few iOS revisions back. Some small percentage of iOS devices do get an OS corruption this seems to fix.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip, Penforhire.
