Custom search engine in Viewer?

Greetings all,
Is the search engine used in the Viewer user customizable? I'd like to replace Google with something else for Ctrl+E / context-menu searches. I tried using the customizable dictionary search as a substitute, but it seems to only search for the first word in a selected phrase.
I've looked through the FAQ and manual and also searched this thread but didn't find anything, but I apologize if I missed something.

The value is hardcoded into calibre's code. See: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...ntview.py#L823

Hopefully Kovid can make this customizable.

Bummer; that's what I had guessed, but hoped I was wrong. Thanks for confirming it!

@tobeabletopost - FWIW - I use a Windows gadget, Click.to, its not free, IIRC there's a time limited trial.

It pops-up an icon bar when something is copied to clipboard. User configures which icons appear in the pop-up bar, and user can add web sites and local applications.

It can be used wherever there is selectable/copyable text.

Oh, by the way, Kovid made it customizable.

Now just wait for the next release of calibre -- calibre is released most Fridays.

Yes, Kovid is demonstrably one of the fastest and most responsive software developers around.

I've tested the change (I habitually run from source) -- it works great!

I just updated, and it works like a charm!

For those wanting to use this feature, you'll need to know the right formatting to use for your preferred search engine. It's pretty easy to find; in your web browser, go to the search engine's home page and search for TEST. Look in your browser's address bar at the resulting URL and find TEST. There may be extraneous junk in the url, so a little testing may be needed.

For example:
I went to the Russian site yandex.ru, searched for TEST and this was returned:
https://yandex.ru/search/?lr=538721&text=TEST
I have no idea what the "lr=538721" bit is for, so I stripped it out to give:
https://yandex.ru/search/?text=TEST
Then replace the word you used for testing with the search variable {text}:
https://yandex.ru/search/?text={text}

Then copy that URL and go to Preferences > Miscellaneous Options in the Calibre viewer and replace the default Search online URL.

Here's a handful that I tested, in no particular order and with no endorsements. All but the reuters site work with https. The wikipedia URL works with different language options, replace the "de" with your preferred language code: en, pl, no, and so-forth.

Code:
www.reuters.com/search/news?blob={text}
yandex.ru/search/?text={text}
duckduckgo.com/html/&q={text}
www.baidu.com/s?wd={text}
search.yahoo.com/search?p={text}
bing.com/search?q={text}
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/{text}
Want to see a bandersnatch? Add a visual element to your reading with an image search:
Code:
images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=Awr?p={text}
Studying, or maybe reading some good hard-SF? Check Arxiv for current research!
Code:
http://arxiv.org/find/all/1/all:+{text}/0/1/0/all/0/1
OK, you all probably get the idea by now. I'm just super-pleased with this change.
