how to switch of page numbers in margin?
Hi,
I've just received my new H2O and I'm not able to uncheckt the page counter that rides on the right hand margin. I know it's under "reading settings" and then there's a checkbox for Adobe Epub page counters or some such, but the checkbox cannot be unchecked. Any ideas? Thanks |

Being unable to uncheck this box is not something I've come across myself but something else you could try is to edit the Kobo config file directly rather than via the GUI:

Thank you Jackie!
That was very helpful and exactly what I was looking for. The box in the prefs is now unchecked (and it cannot be checked manually, still) Hint for Mac users stumbling upon this: to see "hidden" items on your Kobo, start the "Terminal" app (it's hidden in your Programs -> Utilities folder). then type (cut and paste the text in italics): defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1 Now you can see the hidden files. Edit as described by Jackie, use the "TextEdit" app, also hidden in your program folder. Once saved (make sure you check under the format menu the the text is without formatting), you can set your finder back to its default setting so the hidden files do not show up any more. Cut and paste the italic text into the "Terminal" app window: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0 |

I don't have an H2O, but if I'm not mistaken the touch system is infrared, which means a bezel around the screen where crumbs, dust bunnies and other such monsters can lurk. You might try getting a soft brush and gently brush under the bezel, or use canned air and give it a good air cleaning under the bezel around the screen and see if that might not be the problem why you can't change that box.

Glad you got it "fixed" but I might seriously think about signing out and back into your Kobo account. That will rebuild the database on your device and might save you grief down the road as your current problem might be a corrupted database. Note that you'll have to redownload your Kobo content (another reason to think about doing it now rather than later when you might have more to download).

Hi Ripplinger - the Kobo ist brand new, just out of its box, and the checkboxes for othe roptions work just fine, so it's not that, I'm sure
![]() @robko: I only "side-load" - have my entire library organized via Calibre, so I'm not sure how i can rebuild. I do use calibres function to update the device metadata, though. |

<grabs H2O and presses nose to screen> You're actually right. there is a tiny space between the bezel and the screen. Still, I don't think that's where the IR LEDs are, so they shouldn't be blocked by dust that's caught there, if any. Although I might be wrong there as well

These checkboxes are awfully small and you have to hit them exactly to register.
For me this means I have to tap slightly to the top-left of the box. Try to tap the checkbox and then tap all directions in a circle closely around the checkbox and see if any one of them registers. There shouldn't be a space. It's glued on, so if anything, there's a layer of glue. And that's the only thing holding any water back so ... I'd rather not put the waterproofness to the test, ever. Well, I can't anyway since I opened my device and even drilled a hole into it. Last edited by frostschutz; 03-24-2015 at 01:33 PM. |
