OK here - Win7, Calibre 2.21, Interface style: Calibre, Font: Verdana [8pt], default Windows 7 theme - you appear to be using the old Win95 look.

Added - I note that some descriptions wrap to a second line and others use an ellipsis. This may have been ever thus. I wonder if that, and the run words together glitch are related.

It is called 'Classic Look'
My eyesight seems to be slipping and I have more problems with mixed shades of Blue , so I switched from the more pastel W7 to the era of Saturated Solids

(BTW Good catch )
