Error installing Calibre 2.21

I'm getting an error trying to install calibre-2.21.0.msi:
"The cabinet file 'calibre.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

I tried rebooting and re-downloading the file, but get the same error. Anyone have a clue?

Note: I've installed the previous 100+ calibre updates without any problems. Maybe I'll wait and see it I have better luck with version 2.22.

Your A/V might be *fixing* a perceived problem (assumes you used the official site)

Uninstall calibre, and clear up any leftover registry keys. RevoUninstaller is good for this -- but MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T DELETE YOUR APPDATA!!!

Then redownload calibre again.

You could also try running the Portable version

@yekim54 - Where did you get the download - this is the 'official place' ==>> calibre - Download calibre

If no luck with main site, try second alternative (it uses https) - your ISP may have cached a corrupt download, https should overcome that.

PS : rather than Revo uninstaller which doesn't handle 64 bits apps and may indeed trash your configuration directory - I suggest a lightweight registry cleaner such as CCleaner.

Yes, I did download from the official site and also from Alternative site #1. I took your suggestion and tried Alternative site #2, and it installed correctly (didn't have to un-install anything). Thanks so much for your advice!

Did you save the download(s) you got from each of the sites and try comparing them?

I know we've seen some occurrences in the past of an ISP caching the downloads and causing issues.

Usually the problem there was caching old versions for no good reason. It is far more ridiculous for them to cache corrupted copies. Nevertheless, good thing we now have GitHub downloads.

No I didn't save the downloads. I overwrote the previously download file with the new one each time.

However, I did note that after double-clicking on the *.msi file, the Windows Installer "Open File - Security Warning" notice indicated "Publisher: unknown" for the first two downloads, whereas, the download from Alternate Site #2 indicated "Publisher: Kovid Goyal".

I suspect the ISP 'cache monster' only looks at the name, if its the same as something that's already its cache then it sends that. Looks as if someone distributing a hacked/botched MSI.
