Samsung Tab S 10.5

Been out of things for a while, but happy to be back to the Forum again, so hello to one and all
I've recently taken delivery of the Samsung Tab S 10.5, a treat to myself for no particular reason beyond succumbing to temptation......
I find it a superb tablet, amazing picture, nice to use, very good size, and simply the dog's b......s, frankly.
With the help of son and heir, who is dragging me into the 21st C, I'm getting the hang of using such a (to me) sophisticated piece of kit.
I'm just interested to know if anyone has used it as a reader yet, installed Calibre and Alf's toolbox - and if there were any problems in any way ?
Also if anything new has popped up since I've been away, in fact any suggestions for anything else to make my new toy better for reading.
I'm till loyal to my trusty Sony kit - 'specially my irreplaceable old 350 , and my T3, still my favourite device.
Anyway, nice to be back, look forward to scouring the forum generally.

I use a samsung tab pro-8.4 which is basically an identical tablet as my main reader

I hit my calibre server via the browser, and load books into moon+

works really well for me now that I've got it all sorted out

Is there any significant power saving with inverted colours (white text on black background) with AMOLED display on Samsung Tab S 10.5?

I think it's like 20% or less. There's some but it is not huge.

The more important factor is eye comfort. Use whatever gives you less eyestrain.

I have a Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8.4 and think it's excellent as a reading device (although battery life could be better). Calibre itself and Alf's tools are not appropriate for an Android device but FWIW two of my essential reading-related apps are:
  • Calibre Companion to handle Wi-fi transfer of books to device and be the best Android library organiser you could possibly wish for if you're a calibre user. Not free but it's the best value-for-money app I own. There is a free demo version (full function but limited to 20 books). It's developed by chaley, one of the main calibre developers, and his family. It doesn't handle the actual reading of the books but it does interface seamlessly with many of the popular epub reading apps (e.g. Mantano, Pocketbook, Moon+, etc)
  • Ivona text-to-speech with British Amy voice - currently free in Google Play. Really handy to continue reading when your hands/eyes are busy doing something else (although your family may not appreciate you shush-ing them all the time ).
