Calibre no longer shows tag colums on the left

I was updating my Kobo H20 today and all of a sudden the tag/series etc colums disappeared from the left. I have no idea how to get them back and I can't work calibre without them.

I've tried updating to the latest version but that hasn't restored the columns.

Can anyone help please

I've searched the Calibre manual and it appears to be the Calibre Tag Browser that's missing.

I've managed to find the answer by googling the problem and locating a strange blog called superuser.com

It's Alt, Shift and T to get it back.

I must have accidently caught the keys to remove it in the first place, although not sure how as you need to press all three at the same time.

Pity this info isn't in the help manual.

There is a icon at the bottom right of the main Calibre windows that looks like a 'label'. This toggles that window on/off. I am pretty sure that is described in the user guide (although I have not looked to check).

There's an Alter Tag Browser box only visible if the tag browser is shown. No idea what it does though as nothing happens when you touch it with the mouse, you have to select an option. It looks like it's for sorting.

It doesn't toggle the window off and on.

Ahhh that icon!

I'd never even noticed it. I never play with the display, that's why losing the tag browser column freaked me out. With nearly 6000 books in Calibre I don't want to think how I'd manage my library without it.

Itimpi is referring to this button, shown at the bottom right of calibre's window.

@josieb1 - actually, the kb short is in the manual ==>> Keyboard Shortcuts

But what appears to be missing is any reference to the status bar icon or the keyboard shortcut in ==>> Tag Browser ditto for Cover Browser/Grid and Book Details.

Would also be nice if the status bar icons changed there appearance depending on relevant shown/hidden state. Can't recall where but I've seen a 2 pixies orange border used to good effect elsewhere as a means of indicating toggle state.

Tip : given that many (most) calibre features can have a kb short, Preferences->Keyboard is a useful resource for finding things. Enter "tag browser" in its Find box and you should see something like :

They do change their appearance, but maybe the change is too subtle and something more obvious should be used?

By Jupiter you're right - but for these tired old eyes, 3 Shades of Grey are almost indistinguishable

Don't think so. The icon itself doesn't change, its the 'button background' that changes - nothing jumps out at me from textures.
