Feedback comments on image size

Dr. Drib,

How could we possibly know we need to "take a few minutes to..." when we had no clue as to why you simply removed content rather than explaining/correcting -content might be removed for any number of reasons. I can't in all honesty regard the ad content I now see displayed in the post as an improvement over an image with the required detail, but at least it apparently fits the 600x600 rule! (Correction: whoops, that must have been only while editing as no ad is displayed now...)

It'd be nice if they made it easier for you and employed input filtering to only accept images up to a certain size or just resized them automatically. I know you're a good guy from years of posts with a wicked sense of humor and a responsibility, all I'm asking is that you maybe clue the rest of us in rather than just creating another mystery as to why something was removed. I realize, ideally the OP would go back and satisfy the request for a correction and resolve the information gap, but that isn't always so.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from -no disrespect intended personally. Frankly, we get more than enough in the way of mysteries in reading many of these posts.

Or is there a way to just display the link to the image if there is one? Or is this size issue only on uploaded images? I confess, I don't think I've ever included an image. I'm just trying to limit confusion and see as much info as was provided by the OP, not trying to give anyone a hard time.

Naturally, the moderator who moderates the oversized image can edit anything they want. They can strip the image bbcode and make it into a link, enclose it in spoiler tags, or just delete it. I can hear that deleting it is a sharper message to the poster, and is also easier to do at speed.

Deleting of oversize images seems to be the preferred method here.

That was a ST:TNG episode!

I think the problem is if you place the image as part of the post when it's hosted elsewhere, without uploading it to the MR server and it's over that size limit. If you upload the images to MR within the post, MR resizes them but then lets you click them up to full size, and the 600x600 pixel limitation seems no longer a concern.

But I did see the image before it was deleted and it definitely had a yellowish cast to the top part fading down to bluish/white. Honestly that would drive me crazy.

No. They cannot. They will still be deleted if they are over 600x600 pixels. Our Posting Guidelines are very clear:

"Images included in posts must be no more than 600x600 pixels." [Emphasis added.]

I'm sorry for getting this off topic ball rolling, but at the time it just naturally seemed like the best place to request that you throw us a clue when pulling stuff. I should have PM'd you. It really can leave quite a gap when reading posts, often leaving one's opinion colored in a wholly different way than it might have been. Not being subject to the onus of the task I had no idea in what ways you were limited as a moderator and should not have assumed.

At any rate, please accept my apology -done in open forum because you deserve it in front of everyone. Extra points to PeterT for supporting you. I guess I should expect the Iron Glove from a guy whose avatar has so many body parts missing... ;-)

The problem is that when removing images that are too large, it can make the post not so easy to understand because the picture can be integral to the post.

The OP of the image can always go back and edit the post to include a properly sized version
