Kindle Voyage/Kindle 6 Jailbreaks?

In September Amazon announced the Kindle Voyage and 'new' Kindle (Wikipedia calls it Kindle 6, Amazon's source code notice calls it the Kindle 7th Generation). Is there any effort being made to jailbreak them? If so, what's its status? Any way I can help or be pointed in the right direction to start a jailbreaking effort? I have a lot of experience with C/Linux and a Jailbroken Kindle 4NT, but I wouldn't know where to start jailbreaking a new device.

Thanks! The stuff everyone here does is amazing and I'm excited to be a part of it!

Site traffic may be slow now, but we have not surrendered in the war over end-user access to the Kindle that they own.

Mostly, we are now being very careful not to give Lab126 any hints on things they forgot or did wrong.

We do need to find people with a KV on order but not yet received.
Those people should also have a PC with Linux installed (not installed in a VM).

Cool. I'm on OSX, but I can get my hands on a Linux machine. Any preferred distros?

I can get my hands on the Kindle/Linux hardware in a week or so.

@ramseynasser: Kind of a non-answer, but, really: whatever you're most comfortable with .

(Hell, OS X might even do (part of) the job here, most of us are just more familiar with Linux [and/or don't have any Apple hw]. That said, among other things, working with ext[34] images can be a pain outside of Linux).

Cool! Yeah, Apple's OS/HW has some weird magic that can mess this kind of stuff up. I'm usually on Arch, so I will get that set up right away.

Arch? I have never used it.
You might have to build a program for it but no big deal.
Choose a 32bit install if you have a choice.

PM either myself or NiLuJe -
we will give you the step-by-step of what we want done.

Like I wrote above, we are not giving Lab126 any more lessons on embedded Linux.
They have been learning too fast.

It needed to zxczxc due to it being out in the open it meant lab126 knew how they were gaining access to the system so each time they could close the back door being used.

Not much of a change -

We want Amazon to ship enough of the new models with the new firmware into the field that they can't "pull" that initial release and re-think the situation.

But once a new model and its initial firmware become "history" due to the number of devices in private hands -

Then the end-result of our efforts becomes public.

The "how did someone come up with this" part -
that has always been knowledge only the originator knows about.

Sometimes these things get "engineered", sometimes the person just "gets lucky".
We only have self-motivated individuals working on the Amazon challenges - not organized groups.

For us its a game.
For Amazon it is a significant expense item in their development program.
Someday, Amazon's bean counters will win - by recognizing that going to an "Open Kindle" is the better business decision.

I reckon you lot should bill Amazon for all the things you've taught Lab126 over the years

And as a dumb end user, my thanks as always to the devs for all the goodies. Hopefully you'll find a way in with the Voyage too!

My Voyage will ship today. I can easily hold off doing stuff with it and I have access to OS X and Raspberry PI Debian at home and Linux at work, if that's any help.
