Free (nook) Two Crosses [Xtian 1960s French-Algerian War Literary Drama Novel]

Two Crosses by Elizabeth Musser is the 1st in her Secrets of the Cross trilogy of historical literary drama novels set during the events of and the fallout of the mid-20th-century war between Algeria and France (Wikipedia) which eventually led to the former's independence, this installment starring a young university student who gets caught up in some underground activities related to the war and finding her faith challenged as well as going on the obligatory journey of self-discovery and uncovering dark secrets from her past etc., free courtesy of Christian publisher David C. Cook.

Technically, this has previously been offered free back in 2012, but it doesn't show up on MR forum search, so I'm just going to treat it as a new offering, especially since it seems to be another one of those weird probably-glitch ones. Hat tip to the posters over at the B&N book discussion forums for spotting this, incidentally.

Currently free @ B&N (also UK).

Can be bought for the dirt-cheap price of just $0.01 @ Amazon (also UK), Google Play (available to Canadians), & ChristianBook (DRM-free ePub available to select countries).

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat… -ish, kind of) ebook thread of the day.

Because even though I'm highly unlikely to actually try this one, the Franco-Algerian war is a pretty unusual setting to get any sort of creative works done in (at least in the English language; probably the most famous one that Anglophones know of is the French film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Wikipedia) starring Catherine Deneuve, which in the version marketed to English speakers is the source of the song "I Will Wait For You" (Wikipedia) from the "Jurassic Bark" episode of Futurama about Fry's dog), so bonus points for going off the beaten path and hopefully also having Done The Research®.

Enjoy!

Description
The glimmering Huguenot cross she innocently wears leads her deep into the shadows.

When Gabriella Madison arrives in France in 1961 to continue her university studies, she doesn’t anticipate being drawn into the secretive world behind the Algerian war for independence from France. The further she delves into the war efforts, the more her faith is challenged.

The people who surround her bring a whirlwind of transforming forces—a wise nun involved in the smuggling, a little girl carrying secret information, and a man with unknown loyalties who captures her heart. When she discovers a long hidden secret from her past, it all leads to questions about trust, faith in action, and the power of forgiveness to move beyond the pain of the past.

For those who do want to read the series, the next two are on sale, as well ($2.99 or less, at least on Kindle).
