Interesting Appstore behavior

A few days ago I noticed that my Fire HD had available updates to Mantano Reader and Maxthon browser. I thought maybe they had lifted the 'embargo' at last.

Now keep in mind that neither app is deemed 'compatible' with Fire HD (according to the product listing). I had purchased both (Maxthon is free) on my Android tablet using the Appstore app, then side-loaded them to the Fire in a sort of experiment (actually I later downloaded Maxthon directly from maxthon.com). But until now, I was not offered any updates, even though both have had newer versions in the Appstore.

I took the bait and tried to update. Maxthon got replaced by 'Maxthon Mobile', older version than I had. The Mantano Reader update failed. I uninstalled, then I was able to download and install from Cloud list. But again the version is old, 2.1 vs the current 2.5.1 in the Appstore.

lf I used either app regularly I would have been upset. As it is, it just weird, and maybe a little encouraging (they didn't show up in Cloud before). I just wish they would stop blocking reading apps and browsers, already.

I'll probably contact Amazon CS about this to 'complain' and see what they say, but thought I'd check here to see if any of you have observations like this.

seems like a fluke result. I went through a similar buy elsewhere then sideload process for Mantano premium a couple of months back.
I just checked and search app store view from KF HDX 8.9 , after reading your post but it still returns no results for mantano. it IS in the app store but labelled not compatible. I don't think the amazon store version has updated since I bought it so I can't comment on updates. it had breifly caught up with google play store releases, but now it is lagging again.

I have a similar issue with timote- the spotify controller app - it sideloaded just fine after buying it via another tablet, but it does not show up in cloud or in store . ( so if I were to accidentally remove from device it could be a hassle to put it back ) That one did however somehow update it's name from spotimote to timote a few weeks back
