in all these reviews of e-readers, why is it that no one mentions ebook format as a limitation? i know that it is a non-issue for those who are aware of the different formats and know how to convert from one format to another. but the majority of users will not know.

I've tried to interest a number of people I work with in Calibre, conversion tools, etc, and nobody gives a damn about it.

The one thing I would say that reviewers should mention regarding formats: library support. I absolutely love that my Kobo Aura HD can display ebooks borrowed from OPL's Overdrive section. I found it interesting that the reviewer (I checked out the H2O full review) had issues with the H2O's frontlight. Most reports I've read say that it's best in class. |

Content is an important consideration, as your device may be restricted to its manufacturer’s own bookstore. For example, Kindle e-readers are limited to Amazon’s admittedly very well-stocked online bookstore, while Kobo e-readers let you browse other stores

I get the impression that a better title for the article would be: "Spamming links to 7 reviews for ereaders that we wrote in 2014." The article made no sense otherwise. The products appeared to be ranked, yet one receiving a 4 star review ranked below one receiving a 2.5 star review. The ratings are also inconsistent: the Kobo Aura H2O received 3 stars while the Kobo Aura HD received 4 stars, even though they are virtually identical devices. The criteria used to describe the devices is extremely inconsistent, largely due to it being a copy and paste of summary paragraphs from different articles. On top of that, the article glossed over the most important thing that people need to know about a particular ereader: whether it will work with their ebooks. Perhaps the individual review articles have value, but given the clickbait nature of this article and the wildly inconsistent verdicts that they plagiarized from their other articles, I would suggest finding your information elsewhere. |

Are there publishers/authors who don't sell their titles on Amazon?

They rated the nook Glowlight ahead of the H2O. For that, I have to say that list is worthless. The nook is awful. The interface is very poor and the segmented storage is pathetic. Also saying that the H2O is unresponsive is baloney. Mine is plenty responsive. So why did they include the Kobo Aura HD when it's no longer being made? The list is just way off base. Also, they did forget to mention that if you want to use Overdrive, a Kindle is not a good choice. |

But when they go to the library and find out that the library supports Overdrive and they have a Kindle, they won't be happy that they can read those nice free eBooks from Overdrive. This is something that should have been mentioned first and formost the the Kindle dropped down a notch because of this limitation.

It is simply inaccurate to say you are *forced* to use Amazon.

If DRM is involved, then YES you DO have to buy from Amazon.
