Help creating a mobi file
I need some help converting my manuscript to a Mobi file. I'm finding Calibre a little daunting. I know how to get the manuscript inside Calibre and I follow the direction but I don't know how to save the file.

Have you looked at Mobicreator?
http://www.mobipocket.com/en/Downloa...asp?feature=12 Or, for that matter, Kindlegen? http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000765211 |

You'll get a lot more help if you ask your question in the correct forum. Moved to the "Kindle Formats" forum.

I use Sigil for this purpose. I upload the (validated) epub to the KDP, where it converts just fine.

Gosh, I found Sigil easy to use, from the first time I opened it, and with the Preview pane it should be even easier now. Calibre by contrast strikes me as very unintuitive. Plus it could be causing his problem. (Like most people, I find it easier to blame the tool than the carpenter.)

The logical thing to do would be for the OP to spend half an hour reading the Calibre manual. Saving a file from Calibre is not difficult - right click the book and select "Save to Disk".

I don't disagree, Harry; well, okay, I disagree about whether people should be using Calibre to convert books, when they don't know what they are doing. As I recently posted in one of my (now-scant) remarks on the KDP, the irony of Calibre is that IF someone knows how to use it, it's fine. In other words, the people that don't need Calibre--people who can write code, etc.--are the ones who should be using it. But it's the people who don't know how to write code, or clean-up the junk it (can) produce, that do use it. However, since that objection will fall by the wayside, I thought I'd ask the OP about how the file got in there; perhaps using something like Toxaris' ePUBTools would get him/her there faster. It was simply a thought. Hitch |
