Syncing Ebook reader
Hi,
I am looking for an e reader with which I can sync my position between different devices. I own a Kindle Keyboard, however due to the inability to sync between the devices I ended up not using it as often as I would like to. I don't only buy my books from Amazon but I get my books from different sources as well such as Project Gutenberg. At the moment I am using my Ipad and my Android phone to read my Ebooks using the Google Playbook app but I would like to purchase a dedicated ereader. Does anyone know whether there is any dedicated ebook reader which I allow me to do it? I've heard some people are able to do it with their Kindle by sending the mobi file to their kindle email address but unfortunately that has never work for me. I will appreciate any suggestions! Thanks, Chris |

I know it can be done within platforms - like between the Kindle app on an iPad or Google device and on Kindles, but I don't know how it would be done between platforms. I'll have to keep an eye on this thread.
(Off topic - Kindle's Whispersynch works much better than Nook's syncing.) |

Unfortunately, I don't know of any dedicated ebook reader other than the Kindles that can sync books that are bought from any store--I think Kobo and Nook can do it with books bought from their own store, but not from others. Shari |

Thanks for the answer!
@ NickyWithNook What do you mean when you said "it can be done within platforms"? It can be done between Ipad, Android and Kindle? @ Shalym I'll correct myself, I've read in other forum that someone managed to sync their position between the different devices by sending the mobi file to their free Kindle email address. Although I did send the mobi file to my kindle address, I wasn't able to sync the positions between different devices. I don't know whether I am allowed to post a link to other forum in this thread. If I'm allowed to do it I can try to find out whether I read the post and post it here. I hope I expressed myself clearer this time. Thanks, Chris |

If you have the kindle app on your Android and Ipad, then books bought at Amazon or stored in their cloud will sync. Provided you have the wifi turned on.
In order for syncing to work, the device has to talk to Amazon. Hope this helps. |

So, you get the book from Guttenberg, and email it to yourkindle@kindle.com. This sends it to your dedicated Kindle, and also allows it to be stored in your Kindle cloud. You then go to the Kindle app on your iDevice (or android device) and download the book from the cloud to your device. You can now sync locations, etc to all devices as long as the devices are able to connect to the Internet. Shari |

Thanks Cinisajoy, Shari
I've tried this method a few times before but I never managed to get it to work. Is it possible that this will only work in specific countries? At the moment I'm travelling and won't be able to try it but I'll try again next week when I'm back home. I'll post the result on this thread. Thanks! |

I think your question for me has been answered by others. Anything in the Kindle cloud on a Kindle app on any device or on any Kindle will synch. By "platform" I mean Kindle - like you couldn't read a book on a Kindle but also on Google Books and expect them to synch. But it can synch between a Kindle and the iPad Kindle app and the Google Play Kindle app.

I live in the USA and I sync between my Kindle and my phone with it's Kindle app every day. I've been doing that for a few years.
On my recent Kindles, the Voyage and the new Paperwhite, this is almost always an effortless procedure. I stop reading on one device and begin where I left off on the other device. I say "almost" because sometimes I'll not sync and it won't automatically sync so I have to do that manually. Most of the time it does it without my telling it to. On my older Kindles, the 1st and 2ng gen Paperwhites, I have to be sure to sync at the end of a reading session and then be sure to sync before I begin reading on the next device. And in both devices this syncing should be done from the home screen. That always works. Leaving out any part of that procedure works a lot of the time but not always. I have no idea about syncing anywhere except in the USA. It may or may not be the same there. By the way I do sometimes get books from Gutenberg and send them to my library via email and they sync just fine. I'm not sure if this will be useful information to you but I'll throw it in anyway. Lately I've been experimenting with reading on my phone. Actually my old phone and my new one, using on while the other is charging. I'm reading mostly with Moon+ reader and using it's built-in syncing via Dropbox. This works even better than the Kindle syncing. It's faster and it almost never fails and I don't have to remember to do anything. I just read. Barry |

Thanks NickyWithNook, Barryem
I'll try it again, it should work for me if it works for everyone else ![]() Because I'm using different devices (Ipad 3, Android phone, PC, and my Kindle), I have several Kindle email addresses. Where do I send the file to? |

I nearly always send ebooks to my Kindle using normal web based gmail. It's never been a problem.
As for which device (or email) to send it to, send it to one that you want to read it on. Then you can find it in your library with the others and download it to them as well. It doesn't really matter which one it first gets sent to. Barry |

All of your devices/apps are registered to the same Amazon account, correct?
