Does X-Ray persists after re-import using Calibnre?
If I buy a book with X-Ray, import it using Calibre (maybe edit it), then resend it to a Kindle, will the X-Ray feature persist?

The X-ray data file comes from Amazon's server, so you will only have it if you download the book from Amazon. Books sent by Calibre have no X-ray.

Whether or not X-ray would continue to work if you downloaded the book from Amazon, but then manually replaced it with a version edited in Calibre, I honestly don't know. Best way to find out would be to try it.

Don't have one, yet. Just doing research at the moment.

It will not work -- the file offsets are different, and the guid/exth 113 field is different.
Edits make a "new" book -- it resets things. |

If you sideload without changing anything other than the metadata, it will work just fine... on condition. You need to make sure the filename stays the same.
See here for how I manage Amazon-sourced books on my Kindle, it has been working for me for a couple years now: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=235537 |

Are the two posts above me in contradiction?
@eschwartz: Glad to know, that'll work for me! E: Ah, I see the difference. Calibre vs rsync. Been ages since I used rsync when I was still on FreeBSD ... So, just so I get it, even if I don't modify, it won't work with Calibre? Last edited by Brazen_NL; 02-26-2015 at 08:22 PM. |

Read the whole post, it has multiple parts. They work together.

I've read it, but I'm looking for something that has proven itself under Windows. I'm not sure if rsync's cygwin port is fully compatible in the way that you use it. Should I choose a Kindle, I will most definitely look into it. Thanks!

The custom columns work on Windows... that is what I was speaking of.
![]() Although FWIW, cygwin rsync (and the rest of cygwin too) rocks and I use it whenever I have the misfortune to be on Windows. ![]() |
