Got it

Finally received Glo from Kobo itself. The customer service was very helpful.

Went through the nonsense of setup - still charging it.

Shoved my microSD with 200 books on it in the reader. It found them, took a bit to load, but I can finally read some of the new downloads. It seems to be missing about 15 books. I'll have to see which ones.

Kobo is a bit pricey, but I did find a good book on the Curiosity Rover by a JPL engineer who has worked on Sojourner, Spirit and Opportunity, and now Curiosity. The local B&N didn't have it.

Does the card in the Kobo show up in "the computer" (mine says "yes, master)
as a drive or do you have to go through Kobo desktop?

How do you get Adobe Digital Editions approved? I might have some books on the card - the Nook was approved.

Thanks

When the Kobo is attached via USB both one partition of the internal SD card (/mnt/onboard) and the external SD card are mounted as USB storage devices.

The device is authorized by ADE when it detects that the Kobo is attached.

Looks like you can't just replug in the USB if you have disconnected device. You have to reconnect via reader. Did see the drives when plugging in today. Phone, Acer tablet just show up again when plugged in after being ejected without rebooting or restarting. So do most storage USB devices.

Doesn't the screen go blank when Glo is shut off? Seems like this device keeps a ghost image or an image of the book cover that you were reading.

With the Kobo you have a choice on the device as to whether you want to manage it (ie connect to a host PC) or continue reading (ie let the device charge while you continue to read).

Remember that Kobo expose the storage via as a basic USB storage device, meaning there is no support for simultaneous updates to files on it from the host and the Kobo itself, so, if the Manage option is selected, the partition is actually dismounted from the Kobo before being made available to the Host.

When the device is then unplugged, the partition is re-mounted on the Kobo.

As for the iamge on the device, there is an option on the Kobo to select whether or not you want the cover of the currently read book displayed when it is either in sleep mode, or powered off.

And it is done like this because no power is used by the screen to maintain the image. Once the screen has something on it, no power is used until it needs to be changed.

I did turn off images. I prefer totally blank black screens when device not in use.
You didn't have a choice of no image on the old Nook. An author or a nature scene were the only choices.

If I disconnect via the command on the W7pro computer, the computer totally ignores the Kobo even as a storage or media device in the same session unless I reboot the Kobo. It does not show up under drives as media on the second connection. I can plug my phone in and disconnect via the same command, and replugging in the phone since I forgot to add a book, mp3, etc. will be allowed. The computer will recognize the media device and I can use the ext. SD card. I haven't looked under Device Manager yet.
