My main library has lots of titles with more than one format.
They all appear as one line in the main library view with each of the formats being listed in a single column. Ie they have been merged. 1. Is there a way to demerge the formats so that each format is on its own line in the main view? 2. Or alternatively is there a way to copy only one format of a multiple format book to a different library? |

That doesn't sound like a terribly good idea; Calibre's really intended for use in storing all your formats of the same book in a single library entry.
You can easily see what books you have in a given format using the "Format" filter in the tag browser (which is just a search string of the form ' formats:"=EPUB" ', for example) and you could, if you then wished, create a virtual library for each format. I really wouldn't recommend creating separate physical libraries, though, because it would significantly increase your workload if you were, for example, to edit the metadata for a book. You'd have to edit it separately in each library. |

Available Format information is also shown in the Details pane
or The Information window (tap I) for the selected book Reasons for NOT splitting: One set of metadata and covers to maintain Will Auto convert when Send to Device if the required format does not exist (NB This can be real slow, so should probably be limited case use to single book at the time) |

@cager - in essence I agree with HarryT and theducks
But can you tell us why you want to demerge the different formats -- i.e. what 'problem' would be solved if there was a demerge function. BR |

Thanks
Thanks for the thoughts everybody.
My reasons for wanting to demerge the formats are: 1. I wish to have all my epub books in a separate library that will be synced with a memory stick. This is not all my books. This is for a family member who does not have access to my computer. (Because they always want to change the way I do things - ah, the arrogance of youth!) And is not interested in history, biographies etc. 2. Once I have tinkered and converted there will be no further changes to the metadata that will need to be carried out on two files. It is at this stage that I want to separate off the epubs from my azw3s. However, if there is no easy way to do it then I can live with that. I currently copy to a dedicated library then delete the unwanted formats in that library. And remove the retained format from the originating library. |

Quote:
1. Use "Filter by format" in the tag browser to show all your ePub books. 2. "Ctrl+A" in the book list to select them all. 3. Right click, "Save to Disk" -> "Save a single format to disk". 4. Select "ePub" as the format. You don't actually need step one if you don't care about seeing a list of the books. |

@cager - if the 'arrogant youth (ay)' has their own computer with access to the same local network as your own then you could give them access to your library via the calibre server facility. By default the server lists books in Date added order (newest first).
The 'ay' would then have the freedom to download what they want, when they want (providing the server is running), and the ability to maintain their own library as they want. And, if they didn't want to use calibre, they'd also be free to do that ![]() Who knows they may even be a history book that takes their fancy - The Kings Revenge is pretty gruesome ![]() BR |

Thanks for all the thoughts.
Sorry BetterRed _ no network available at home. Thanks HarryT - that could be a workable solution |
