Question Need Help w/Calibre Connection & Galaxy Tab4 Nook

Hi, I received a Samsung Galaxy Tab4 nook 7 inch screen for Xmas. I've been using calibre for years with my First Edition nook without any problems and have about 1700+ fanfiction epubs saved in my calibre library.

I downloaded Moon+ Pro and the Calibre Companion (paid version) for my Tab4 nook, but need some directions on how to get the epubs from my PC Calibre onto the Tab4.

I did go into PC Calibre and click on Connect/Share and clicked "Start Content Server." I also went to Preferences, clicked "Sharing Over the Net" and the Test Server button. I wrote down the URL of the page that opened. Then I went onto the Tab4 and in Moon+ under Net Library, I entered the numbers that I had written down. Unfortunately at that point, I get an error message that says, "ERROR ... Connection to http://[number I entered] refused.

Do I need to download the epubs from PC Calibre to Calibre Connection first?

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I read some of the other threads but nothing I've tried so far works. Sorry, I'm not a very techy person and I'm not sure what I'm doing. I'm using a HP laptop that is running Windows 7.

Have you allowed calibre (port) incoming thru the firewall?
Is your device and server (host PC) both wireless?
Is your TAB on the same LAN network as the PC

1) Yes, I believe so. How do I check that?
2) Yes, though I've been connecting using the USB cable.
3) ??? How do I check this too? Sorry, not very techy.

In calibre click connect/share, click start wireless device connection.
On Nook turn on wireless.
Open CC, Press connect then press Wireless Device/don't sync books or Wireless Device/sync books.

1) Every firewall (program) is slightly different. I seriously recommend you do NOT disable your firewall entirely. Depending on circumstances, even a short 'test' disable could be bad. How well do you trust your WiFi neighbors ?

2) USB does not use the firewall

3)Look at the assigned IP 192.168.0.nnn for both systems.

The green (part) numbers are not important OTHER than they are the same
(If your WiFi is part of the same broadband router, they will be the same)

Your router needs to allow Peer connectivity (2 WiFi devices talking to each other. )
You may need a local, TRUSTED, techie friends help.

THANK YOU!!! This worked and I was able to load all my docs to the Nook. I was also able to open from Calibre Connection to Moon+ and set as the default.

Thanks for the quick fix. You guys are the best!!

Ok gang, I'm late to the party but I need some help. I just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab4 Nook and found out that Calibre has an app. Well, I went to connect the CC app to my PC Calibre and it will not connect with either wireless or server content. I have read the above information and I'm still not sure why I'm having issues. When I try connecting with wireless, it tells me - Failed to connect. It suggests I may have entered the IP address incorrectly. I didn't. Also the port is correct. When I try to connect using Content Server it tells me it cannot find Content Server. Again the IP address and port are correct. I even had my dad who has worked in IT for the past 30+ years look to make sure I'm not crazy. I fixed Windows firewall to allow Calibre as well as Norton. Both my PC and my Nook are on the same network; the IP addresses are similar. What else am I missing? I myself am not extremely tech savy but I know enough for everyone to come to me with their problems. Now I need to go to you guys for help!

Thank you in advance!

PS. I also have the debug logs if you need them from both PC and Nook. Just let me know.

Have you read the CC FAQ's.

Try the steps in this post, pay careful attention to steps 4 and 5.

Bernie, thanks for the reply. I have read the CC FAQs and my network location is set to Home and my devices are set on the same band.

in calibre start the content server, on nook open a web browser and type in your computer local ip address and the port number for the web server--will be listed to the right of stop content server. Let us know if you can get the server on the web.

That does not work. I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that my dad has the server set so you can't ping. I was wondering if that is whole reason this hasn't worked.

See this post.

Repeat my last post using another computer on the same network if available.

In addition to all the good ideas above, check if your wireless router is using "wireless isolation" or "guest mode". See this FAQ answer.

Another thing to try is to start the PC in "Safe mode with networking". How you do that depends on which version of windows you are running. Start calibre and see if you can connect. If it works then something you are running on the PC is blocking connections.

Hi, I have another question. I'm using Moon+ Pro and Calibre Companion to read on my tablet. I've noticed the time display on the Mini Status Bar is showing in the 24-hour format, but I'd rather it display in the 12-hour format. I've checked the setting on the tablet itself and it shows 12 hour. When I swipe after turning the tablet on, the time is displayed in 12-hour format. But as soon as I open a book to read from CC, the time display changes to 24-hour format.

Any thoughts on how to correct this?

You need to find the Mini Status bar option in MR+ click on the gear besides it and customize the time format shown there.
