Supporting Calibre with money

Hi, first post, hello to all.

Just tried to make a donation but when I click on the "Pay with Credit Card or PayPal" button it takes me directly to the PayPal website, without giving me the option to select Credit Card Payment.

I do not want to use PayPay, I want to pay with a credit card...¿is this not possible?

TIA

I think that when you get to Paypal you can enter credit card info. select the "Don't have a PayPal account" and supply the info on the next page.

Thanks, but in my case PayPal gives me only two options:

Pay with my PayPal account

or

Open a new PayPal account.

Neither are good for me, as I do not want PayPal to store my personal data.

I believe calibre also accepts bitcoins.

Thanks for that, BR.

That response clears everything up for me: the only choice for a donation is PayPal or Bitcoins, which is not quite what Calibre's website states but, anyhow, that's neither here nor there.

Thank you all.

Well, to be fair, Paypal.com is the method by which you can pay with a credit card.

I'm all for being fair, but I took "Pay with a credit card or PayPal" to mean just that.

Not to worry, I was wrong but no biggie.

I personlly think anyone who doesn't want Paypl having their information might be better off using bitcoin anyway. If one wishes to remain at a remove from the corporations, might as well go all the way.

Anyway, clarity is good, you have it now, etc.

So I assume you went the bitcoin route then?

Nope, no bitcoins for me, I just opted out of donating.

When dealing with internet payments I prefer credit cards, as my bank makes it really easy and safe for me with one use only fixed amount virtual cards. Any other way is just asking for trouble.

Just curious as to how you expect Kovid to accept credit cards without using a 3rd party service like PayPal?

You might like to investigate your nations PayPal site and actually learn about what options you do have.

I really don't expect anything mate, I merely wanted to donate money because for me Calibre is a truly wonderful piece of software and felt I should contribute. The web says clearly that credit cards are accepted and even shows several credit card icons, but it turns out that no, it doesn't, unless one goes through PayPal, something I explained in post #1 I do not wish to do.

Fine with me, I respect Calibre's choice but I also find it reasonable that if I don't want to use PayPal my choice be accepted too.

It's my money, and I decide how to spend it.

Your choices are certainly reasonable, I am just curious -- if you expected "nothing", does that mean you expected the emptiness of nothingness? Everything is an expectation, even that, if only in the sense that you expect nothing to change.

Anything you do, someone has to process the money. That is why middlemen exist. I would automatically assume that "credit or paypal" meant "paypal account or one-time credit card payment with paypal as the go-between".

Just saying -- the website seemed clear to me. I am simply observing based on your comment "The web says clearly that credit cards are accepted and even shows several credit card icons, but it turns out that no, it doesn't, unless one goes through PayPal". I have no beef in this.
