Hi
Hi all was just wondering how you go about transferring books from 1 kindle to another? I have a Kindle PW2 with all my books on not just those bought from Amazon but other sites too, I also have the Kindle Voyage; arrived today o am very excited. I would like to transfer all my book straight from my PW2 to Voyage is this possible or would I have to download them all again?
Many Thanks |

For Amazon bought books you have to download them again from the Amazon Cloud, you can't transfer from one device to another.
For your own books you have two options, you can sideload them via Calibre and a USB lead or you can send them to your Amazon account and download them via the cloud, the same as the Amazon books. Thats the best option if you are likely to want to readthe same book on multiple devices as Whispersync will keep the pages in sync. If you sideload via the USB lead you would need to do that for each device. I use Send to Kindle for my non Amazon books which is software i download onto my pc and use to email the books to Amazon and they appear on the device i select in Send to Kindle automatically http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle |

This page tells you how to load books via the pc
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cust...deId=201506260 If you buy lots of books from other sites it might be time you looked into loadig them all into Calibre so you have a library on your pc. Calibre will recognise your kindles and you can use it to send books via the usb lead, but you need to load your books into Calibre first. http://calibre-ebook.com/ |

You can easily transfer your document folder (a hidden system file) which contains all your books from one device to another using USB. To transfer cover images, etc, see this thread:

What happens if you simply drag a non-drm file (e.g. a book from MobileRead) from the document folder of one kindle onto your computer, then drag it to the document folder of another kindle? In other words, is it necessary to use Calibre for side loading?
Thanks, |

No, calibre is not necessary for sideloading. You can drag and drop any file from a computer to a Kindle. Whether or not that Kindle will be able to open them is a different question.

If it is a non-Amazon book, it won't have DRM, so there is no reason another Kindle shouldn't be able to read it.
By the way, Hi is a stupid title for a thread. Next time, name it what your question really is. That way, you are more likely to get answers. Personally, I thought this was going to be one of those "let me introduce myself" threads. Not sure why I even looked at it. Last edited by susan_cassidy; 01-24-2015 at 01:35 PM. |
