Moon+ Books on SD Card

Recently purchased a low end Tab 4 with the intent of using it primarily as a reader. It doesn't have much internal space but it came with an 8GB SD so I thought I'd be good. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to get Moon+ Reader to keep it's Book folder on the SD card. Google hasn't been helpful so far so I thought I'd ask if anyone has got this worked out. Thanks |

I've got Moon+ Reader Pro on my Nook HD. On the main shelf page, in the upper right corner there are three vertical dots. Click on those and open up the Options menu. There's a place there to list the "Main Folder".

I did that but when I try to set it to the SD card it gives me an error msg. I don't have the Tab 4 handy and didn't grab the message when I got it. I'll note that the current directory is /sdcard/Books/MoonReader but the "/sdcard" seems to be an internal card. My Nexus 5 has the same directory set and that one doesn't take an external card. On the Tab 4 I found /extStorage (from memory so I might be off) which looked like the add-on SD card but that's the one that gave me an error which I tried to get Moon+ Reader Pro to use it. |

Are you using Android 4.4 (KitKat)? This version of Android imposes severe restrictions on the usage of SD cards for external data. Generally speaking, you can READ from folders on an SD card, but you can't WRITE to such a folder from an app.

I've contacted the developer about this and suggest that others do likewise. He seems pretty responsive I wouldn't think it's a huge change so maybe we can get an update.

I have rootet my tab and still Moon+ Reader won't write on files on the SD-card saying that Kitkat won't let it. This means (I guess) that Moon+ Reader isn't even trying to do so, otherwise SU would ask me if M+R is allowed to write. This is odd.

That said, if you do have write access, you can create a new folder from "My Files" and then tell Moon+ to use that folder (following the directions given by Xanthe above). Quote:
My suspicion is that you've rooted your tablet, but haven't given yourself access to the external SD card (there's a configuration file that needs to be modified). This app will make the modification for you. Install and run it, then reboot. I'd bet that then you can create a new folder on the external card.
