Tax? What tax?

See the following: http://cl.ly/image/3a0X0Y3v452T/Scre...2010.09.01.png

Pay attention to the billing address. It is in Turkey. So, any tax Amazon can legaly charge me is the import tax Turkey charges and Turkey charges no import tax to customers for orders that cost less then 75 Euro.

So, what is this tax?

Moreover, no other Kindle purchase I made has a tax in it.

PS. It is not that I am cheap, I am not going to want my $0.14 back. I am lawyer, this thing just annoys me. And my address can be found online in many places, this is my work address so not really an issue. Bar association even publishes it.

My guess would be that it's VAT. According to vatlive.com, Turkey charges 8% VAT on ebooks. As of 1st January this year, anyone selling digital goods to a customer in an EU country has to charge VAT according to the location of the buyer.

Edited to add: if if is VAT, they appear to have slightly undercharged

In Turkey, if an imported product is exempted from import tax, it is also exempted from VAT. As I said, none of my other ebooks from Amazon were taxed. There is something wrong with this one.

Ones I purchased after this were also untaxed. It is not like Amazon to make such mistakes.

Did you ask Amazon?
I read and enjoyed that book. I am waiting for the sequel, The Liar's Key, to be released in June.

Did Turkey get admitted to the EU? If you did, it could be the new VAT tax on eBooks....
