stop reading information
How do you turn off that reading information nonsense? It's none of Kobo's business how fast I read or where I left off. I just want the Glo to open to the page where I left off with NO comments.
I've got the whole rewards shebang turned off. Reading is a pleasure, not a competition. I don't need rewards to read. |

You could check here for disabling Google Analitics and zeroing out the "user" record of the database.

The last item in the "Reading settings" page of the settings is "Track reading activity". Unchecking that will kill most of the stats. Some are still collected but nothing is reported to Kobo. And nothing is ever reported to Kobo for sideloaded books. Or if you never sync.

I had all that turned off from the get-go. It's just annoying having it on the front page.
I'd prefer just a link to "reading now" like the old Nook wifi with nothing else. Those tiles on the home page are too damn small to read w/o getting a magnifying glass. Kobo needs to allow selection. If you only want current book on home page, then don't add any other tiles. Make the current read far bigger if that's what the owner wants. |

Use calibre and the Kobo Utilities to remove the tiles you don't want.

It never appears on my Home screen anymore. If you've disabled all the relevant Settings have you also tried dismissing the tile from the Home screen. Even finishing a book doesn't make it reappear for me.

Or you can long press on any tile and dismiss it. Or open a few books and have the tile disappear off end of the sceeen.
Also, the reading stats tile being displayed when the option was disabled was a bug fixed in a recent firmware version. Don't ask me which, but I remember it being reported and testing that it was fixed. |

Where are Kobo Utilities? I got the Desktop that came with the Glo and there's nothing on it.
I've searched through all the settings. I have longpressed stuff off the home page and it comes right back after sleeping. I thought it might be the old books I put on an SD card, but I bought Mars Rover Curiosity from Kobo and it's doing the same. |

Yes. I do turn it off. Power off shouldn't act like a reset. I can turn my cell phone/tablet off and it doesn't reset. You have to hold other buttons for that.
I am starting to wonder if something is amiss. The area to touch to go home or reading menu settings doesn't work half the time, and pages skip on their own. I've tried several of the settings for touch on the page. Is there a touch calibration app on the Kobo? It is really slow to respond. I've got one book with a really small font. The Kobo will increase it, but if I read for a bit and try to get the reading settings back to readjust, I can't. |

I've got the plug-in. I need a NON-VIDEO tutorial on Calibre. My beef with video tutorials is they don't list frame by frame so it's hard to backtrack and play over. I can see what most of these functions do, but don't understand how to apply.
Backing up is no problem - most of my books were open epub and from places like Creative Commons. They are all on the ext. SD card. Looking at the Kobo settings in the plug-in - why would you have to rate a book? There's columns that showed up that mean nothing to me as I wouldn't need them. The only useful part would be to automatically go to the page I was reading and get the junk off the home page of the Kobo. I have physical books more or less arranged like a library. I don't annotate unless it's a recipe or craft. I don't do book clubs, I read for my own pleasure. Usually non-fiction. |

Fixing the database can be done by restoring a good backup if you have one, or doing a sign-out on the device. This will restart the device and take you through the setup again. Then it will load all the sideloaded books. If this doesn't work, you might need to do a factory reset. Quote:

And picking the ratings, a lot of people are peeved that Kobo removed the ability to rate sideloaded books from recent firmware Quote:

One additional point; there is little if any point to turning an eReader off on a regular basis.
I think if you were to poll here that most users are more than happy with placing the device into Sleep mode; there is little impact on battery mode in sleep mode. |
