Please help me choose!
Hi guys,
I want to buy my first ereader. I'm looking for a Kobo but I really don't know which one I have to choose anymore. Maybe some of you guys could help me out? I'll be going to use the ereader mostly for text. I'm searching for a bright display which I can read in the sun and in the dark. I'm also looking for a ereader where I can put my ebooks on easily, since my mother has a lot of ebooks already. It has to be easy to use the ereader. The last demand is that I can hold the ereader nicely in my hands. So I thought of an Kobo, but if you have an better alternative please let me know! I'm from the Netherlands so I don't know if any ereader is available here. Thank you in advance! |

What format are the books that your mother has in? Do they have DRM? If so, you can't read them unless they are being used with her account, whether Amazon or Adobe DRM.
If the books are public domain, you can always download them for yourself. |

(my 800th post btw)
For Netherlands the best is bol.com which I guess you know
http://www.bol.com/nl/l/elektronica/...681/index.html I bought my H2O from them, excellent (big) screen, very pleased. You have 30 days to try and return for free, free delivery the next day. |

I have a Kobo Aura, which I like because of it's light weight. I also have a Paperwhite which I prefer because it has a better screen. All the things I've read and reviews I've seen tell me I would have liked the Kobo Glo better than the Aura but I got the Aura because it's small and light and really do like that about it.
I do most of my reading on the Paperwhite because I have both of them. If I only had the Kobo Aura and no Paperwhite to compare it to I suspect I'd be perfectly happy with it. It's a pretty nice device. I guess what I'm really saying is there's no best ereader. Pick the one you like. Most of the Kobos and Kindles are good. None are perfect. Barry |

What format are the ebooks in? I did some comparisons I finally bought one (Kobo Aura), the format flexibility was decent, and sideloading was easy. It is a little slow with pdf books (although I've only ever seen 1 pdf book heavy on graphics) it took about 6 seconds for the page turn. However a future firmware version may improve pdf reflow (refresh).

Well, quite a few of the Kobo's will meet your needs based on the criteria that you have given us.
Any of the Kobo's with a light in it will be readable in both the daylight and at night time. Anything from the Glo up has decent screen resolution. The Glo is easy to hold, it weighs 6.5oz (184 grams), has a light, is very compact, has a rounded back, and the entire body is made out of a slightly grippy material. Very nice. For formats it supports: EPUB, PDF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, TXT, (X)HTML, RTF, CBZ, CBR If you want to put books from other sources on to the Kobo (not from Kobo) you have to load them in with Adobe Digital Editions if they have Adobe DRM on them or you can just put them on to the Kobo if the books were purchased DRM free and are in a format that the Kobo can read. (I talk so much about the Kobo Glo in this post because it is the Kobo that I have these days) |

I'm a fan of the Amazon Kindles and wouldn't consider any other brand although some others wouldn't agree with me. They now have a Kindle store in the Netherlands, so availability isn't an issue. The Paperwhite is priced at 100.66 euros. I'd at least recommend that you check out the prices and availability of both devices and ebooks before deciding on any other brand.
