Author indexing varying
I am using Calibre to download books to an Android tablet and a Kindle.
On the Android the authors are indexed by Last Name. On the Kindle they are indexed by First Name. How can I change the Kindle order without messing up my Android system? Thanks for any info coming. Tony |

are you using the Kindle for android app to read on tablet, or are you doing format conversion into some other app ?

No. I am using Calibre Collect to download and it is that program that is showing me the authors in surname order. I then use an Android reader for the title I pick to read.
In case I was not clear. The Android list I like. The Kindle one is what I don't like. Tony |

Just loaded my library on to my Sony T1 and my authors are by First Name again.
I looked for the ePub template and I could not find a line to tick. Next step please oh wise teacher! Tony |

In any event, sony readers ignore the file name when determining metadata, instead using what is written in the device database. You can tell calibre to put author_sort into the database instead of author in the Sony plugin preferences. Connect your device, click on the down-arrow on the device icon, choose Configure this device, and check "Use author-sort for author". |

Thanks Chaley. That has sorted it. Well done.
This is a third device? Indeed. Quick summary. Bought a Samsung 7.7 for travel web browsing and emails. It was the only AMOLED screen at the time and still was useless in a sunlit deck chair. Bought a Sony T1 and rooted it so I could do web browsing and emails. You could see it splendidly in that sunlit deck chair but the software was pathetic. Put it in a drawer and forget about it. Buy a couple of paperbacks a week on average. Get panic signs from wife as she contemplates how much luggage space will be lost we pack for our upcoming three week holiday. Wife prefers books to hold and her treasured leather bookmark. Put present paperback read on the T1 and suggest wife gives it a try. Thumbs up - so next day buy a couple of paperwhites. In the past worried about what happens if a Kindle breaks or gets lost on holiday. Problem solved now as we have a Sony as a backup and the Samsung as a second backup which ought to test the Law of Sod - I hope. I desperation I suppose I could also load the whole library to my Samsung S4 phone.... End of saga. Sorry to go off topic but it hopefully explains my obtuse questions. Tony |
