Updating Calibre

I have calibre 1.48 on my computer (windows 8.1). For some reason I had decided not to upgrade when calibre 2.0 came around. I can't remember if I just wanted to wait and see how it went for everyone or if there was something special (as in hard ) that I would need to do and I wasn't sure if I could.

Everything was still going well until my Kobo Aura got the last update--now calibre can't recognize my collections. I can transfer my books over via calibre, but they won't go into collections.

So...I just need to suck it up and get with the program! Is there anything special I need to do? Or can I just update like I did every time before? I have tried to search the forum but can't seem to find what I need (or what I thought the big problem would have been).

There's no reason that 1.48 won't work with current versions. Can you describe WHAT happens?

Can you maybe attach screen prints of your Kobo device driver settings (either Kobo Touch OR Kobo Touch Extended) depending on which you are using.

See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...81&postcount=4 for some tips on getting to the currect place(s).

(As I said above you might need to look at Kobo Touch driver instead of Kobo Touch Extended).

I wish to update too but I have an even older version, calibre v1-35-0, and now I can`t find the v1.48.0 that I need for some Plugins to work.

can anyone tell me how to get it?

Unless you have Windows XP, you can simply install the latest version from http://calibre-ebook.com/download

yes I have windows XP, that's why I need the 1.48.0, it's the highest one my system would take

and thanx JimmyR, eventhough that was the same page I had downloaded from the 1.48, the first, second and third time, aparently this time was a charm.

Big Thanks to you

I think the problem you are referring to is with Apprentice Alf. From memory I think you need to be running a version of the tools over and above a certain release to be compatible with QT5, which is apparently used by Calibre version 2.0 and above. This may involve uninstalling the tools and re-installing the latest version.

This thread has nothing to do with DeDRM, and the person you responded to is using the latest Qt4 version of calibre (1.48) on Windows XP.

Noted that the main point of the thread was problems with collections. I was only speculating on what the "some reason" for not upgrading referred to in the original post may have been. Some people did put off upgrading Calibre until they were ready to reinstall Alf's plugins.
