Free books
I read quite a few eBooks with my kindle, from amazon' web page. Is that available with the Kobe, or is it mostly side loading? Does a kobo allow folders with categories?
Thank you |

The stock Kobo software does not use folders. It does use categories/shelves. Many make use of the free Calibre program, for which a number of plugins have been created, that work with the Kobo devices.
There are also alternative/add-on readers KOreader and Coolreader. KOreader has a number of builtin features to work with Calibre and its Metadata. For free books, it also has OPDS implemented so you can search, browse and download from online catalogs, like the Gutenberg Project, ManyBooks, Feedbooks, Internet Archive, your local caliber catalog, and any others you add, like the Baen free catalog. By the way there is a Kindle version of KOreader. Luck; Ken Last edited by Ken Maltby; 01-10-2015 at 12:45 PM. |

Not completely sure what you mean, but your Kobo device syncs with your Kobo Library and Kobo Desktop for PC, so any book you get from Kobo, free or purchased, will be available synced to your device.

If you are asking whether there books on the Kobo website you can read for free, then yes. If you sort by price then the free books will be listed first. It will depend on country, but from New Zealand I see about 3.54 million books on the Kobo website, and a bit more than half (1.88 million) of them are free.

Are the free Kobo books only available when you sync?
I could not find a download link to download then sideload the book. Is there one? |

You still have to purchase the book, and once you do it is in your account anyway so why not sync?
On my Kindle, I *can* use the browser to purchase a book, have it auto-queued to go to K4PC, and then go to http://amzn.com/manageyourkindle to download it manually. But it downloads the exact same file I would get by syncing, so why not use the builtin method of downloading from Amazon's servers? Are you saying you use MYK via the Kindle browser to downlosd books that you buy via the Kindle browser? ![]() |

Once you add the free book to your library there will be a download link on your library page just like with bought books, so you can download direct from the website and sideload. (Assuming the book has an epub2 download option shown in its details, same as for bought books.)
