Is this the end for my Glo?

Sooooo... This happened.

I woke up in the middle of the night to find my Glo at the edge of my bed. And when I turned it on it looked like this.

It doesn't have any noticeable cracks on the screen and it definitely doesn't look broken.

At this point, I'm willing to try anything because you can only buy the Touch here. They stopped selling the Glo when Kobo stopped making them.

It's a good thing that I just bought a new phone with a big screen.

I'm just wondering if the warranty will cover it.

You can ask, but warranty usually don't cover it.

Not in this country. And the sadder thing is the only authorized retailer here doesn't seem to want to import any Auras. They only have the Touch available for their website and the Glo is on special order.

My only choices are to beg my friend from Canada to buy me an Aura and I'll pay her back when she visits, or I can look into some shady stores that does shady importing. So far, I've only found on store that sells the HD. But it's too expensive. It's like 230~250 USD.

Try on Chapters and see if they'll ship to you. You never know, you could get lucky.

To clarify slightly, that curved line is a big fracture in the glass - a very clear screen crack. It's been dropped, bent, twisted or leaned on at some point. Sorry.

I'm feeling sorry that the OP has lost their Glo? And sorta hoping that others who use naked devices will consider a cover... it's always sad when a beloved ereader is killed. (correction: or sometimes not so sad, because Upgrade Time!)

I've been preaching to use a cover for a long time. And I've been saying a sleeve is not a replacement for a cover unless the sleeve is large enought o fit the reader and the cover.

Yes, you get people who say "I've been using my Reader without a cover for a long time with no problem" and others then think it's OK and it's not because a Reader is not cheap and a cover will help to protect it. And in some cases, a case will actually make it easier to hold the Reader.

I do get the downside of a cover, though, which is increased weight. Sometimes it's easier to hold, sometimes it's harder, depending on the circumstances (which cover, reading posture, individual hands, etc). I'd consider a naked reader purely for in-bed reading, because I never fall asleep with my reader lying in the bed, and I keep it between books in my bedhead shelf - but it's definitely still a risk factor.

I have the original kobo sleep cover for my Glo. I just removed it to get a better picture.

Setting hleo's comment about having a cover aside, my main concern about covers is that they are just that: covers. While they undoubtedly provide some protection, they are no substitute for proper care. Worse yet, very few of them make claims about the type or amount of protection. This is disconcerting because you don't know what, if any, protection you're paying for.

A shame. I guess you must've rolled or leaned on it in the night? Have you had a look at the marketplace here to see if there's a new reader you could buy?
