using KindleTTS and another app at the same time

Is there a way to listen to KindleTTS and use another App at the same time? I have a KFHD7.

The book will read in the background. So it will/should work.

Can you share a step by step that works, please.
I have tried the following:
Opened book started tts by pressing play, then when I press
home it stops.
I tried opening my pdf, then opening the book, but same thing when I click to go back to pdf reader the tts and book closes.
Do the hdx kindles allow this action?
I really would like to only use one device, but so far I am thinking I may need to get a inexpensive android to view my pdf. I am a stitcher and use pdf reader for my chart and I listen to books while stitching.

With TTS you cannot switch to another app and have it continue reading. If you use 'professional narration' (purchase companion audiobook) then it will continue to read in background.
