Ignore this word
Hello,
When editing ebooks, I like ignoring valid words that the dictionary is not aware of, usually unusual names, made-up words in the story, especially in Fantasy books, (magic spells, non-existent animals etc) In some books I can ignore 100+ words. This makes spotting true spelling mistakes a lot easier. But it looks like the Ignore words list is valid for the current session only, and is lost when exiting the editor which means the next day the words need to be ignored again. (and again, and again- painful) Is there any option to save the list between sessions? If no, could it be considered a feature request? I imaging a pop-up dialogue when opening a/the book which asks "Ignore Words list available from previous session. Load into current session?" Y/N I was hoping the list may be saved to an xml file, but I could not find one so I imagine it is in a memory cache. Thank you |

Use add word to dictionary for this. You can create any number of "user dictionaries" in the editor preferences under Editor->Manage dictionaries->Manage user dictionaries. You can mark user dictionaries as active or inactive and import lists of words into them.

Ok, thank you. I will look into the dictionary method.
I knew I could save new words to the dictionary, but I did not want to pollute the dictionary with invented words. |

This is not only a problem with the Fantasy genre, but also with technical books that have many references to texts whose authors may appear only a few times.
From Kovid's answer to you I can see that I could create a custom dictionary of those names. So, I pose a question to Kovid...could a book be linked to a particular custom dictionary so that it would automatically be opened (made active) when that book is being edited? Because, for the books that I'm editing the set of authors can be quite lengthy for each book but the likelihood of intersecting sets is vanishingly small. |

Hello @kovidgoyal
I am trying to figure out how to do this with dictionaries. First, the only dictionary references I came across in the wiki are the following, but don't seem to help with what I am trying to do... https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/edi...ds-in-the-book https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/vie...tionary-lookup So then I have tried to right click and "Add this word to dictionary: Default" but I can't specify which dictionary to add it to. Ok, so I need to add another dictionary I suppose. I go to ebook Editor>Edit>Preferences>Editor Settings>Manage spelling dictionaries But I am not sure what to do next. I am looking for a way to copy an existing dictionary and rename it to, say, English-HarryPotter so then I can add all the fantasy words to that dictionary and then delete the dictionary when I am done. But I can't seem to find a way to copy a dictionary. So I guess what I am trying to do, and the way I think it works, is wrong Do you, or anyone, have a bit of time to explain how to achieve my first post? Thank you |

@Karellen: Click "Manage user dictionaries" then click "New dictionary".
@Ted: Not automatically no, you would need to activate/deactivate dictionaries each time you switched between books. |
