Authors Not Sorted Correctly

My husband gave me a Kindle Voyage for our anniversary this weekend. I have been a Nook girl for the past few years and my son just got me into Calibre to sort my books for my new reader. He is the techie in the family and was able to get everything running smoothly except author sorting. We cannot figure out why it wants to stick Anna Sewell in front of Orson Scot Card or Harper Lee. It seems to really not know its ABC's. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Click on book. Press 'E' key to get to the "Edit book" dialog.
Here you see two values concerning author:
Authors and Authors Sort.
Card, Orson Scott is before Swell, Anna.

There are several things you can do:

- Now that you know the sorting is OK, just works in a different way than you thought just leave it as it is ;-)

- Change the "sort order" value for all books. This can be done in bulk - you do not have to click on each book and do that manually. You can set up Calibre to do your preferred kind of sorting when you add the book automatically.

- Create a custom column, "Authors" and display that one as well - it can be very narrow. When you click on the original, default "Authors" column it will sort according to surname and when you click on your custom column it will sort as you expect. This is how I do it and this - you can eat a cake and have it at the same time.

@mydogrules - try adjusting the Author sort name algorithm values in Preferences->Tweaks, you might also want to change the Use author sort in Tag Browser tweak.

Make sure you read the tweak descriptions carefully. Experiment on a Test Library.

Get the Quality check Plugin

It has (included with dozens of other good stuff) tests for Author and Title sorts so you know which need TLC
