Can't open book i purchased - DRM error message
I purchased a book in amazon and downloaded it to my computer. When I try to open the AZW file in calibre, it says I can't read it because it's DRM protected. What am I doing wrong? I do not own a physical kindle, only digital downloads from amazon.

Unless you remove the Amazon's DRM (google Apprentice Alf), the book can only be opened in Kindle for PC (or Mac). Calibre cannot open it.

I installed the tools from apprentice alf but they don't seem to be working for me. Tried removing DRM with calibre, but I get the same error message. Seems I'm stuck in a moment 22 here. Thanks anyway.

There's a new version of Calibre out, you may need to update both it and the tools. And maybe re-download your book, doing all that has helped me whenever I got similar errors. If it still doesn't work, check Alf's blog for further details.

may be related....
I added 4 kindle books at once using drag and drop onto main calibre window. when I then tried to convert them I had DRM locked issues with 2 out of the 4. removing , then adding, the same books , the same way, one at a time worked fine though. I wonder if the plug in can't handle batch adds or if there's an issue when /if calibre launches multiple simultaneous jobs. I add from amazon so rarely that is' not a problem for me to always add books singly. just thought I'd mention it . I do have latest versions of everything, so it's not that & i'ts not obvious which needs investigating - calibre itself, or just the plug-in. |

It has come up several times interspersed deeply in other threads, I think it might have come up in the B&N download thread for example... anyway, difficult to find in a search.
