Validating? Everything works/looks fine
So I've finished my epub and everything looks fine and all my links and such work. I've tested it using multiple programs (adobe, calibre, kindle previewer) and everything's fine. BUT when I check it for errors in Sigil there are numerous, a few of which I'm not sure how to fix. If everything works/looks okay, how necessary is it that I fix all these errors? (Note: I'm pretty new at this)

Warnings are Yellow Calibre and Sigil views tolerate too much that devices won't. So if it is renders bad in Sigil, there is a good chance it will be worse on some dvices. IMHO software emulation (what runs on a PC) is not a substitute for a real device acid test. Be sure to test on older models as well as the current ones. Of course, if you are only selling to a single brand outlet (eg Amazon, Apple), their rules prevail . |

If you're happy, run with it. Just keep in mind that if you ever run into trouble and need help figuring it out, the first question is always going to be; "does it validate?"

In my experience, Amazon KDP is not nearly so fussy. Early one, I got dozens of errors in Epubcheck because I was using name= instead of id= in my html. I began hacking together web pages in 1992; if it worked, I was happy with it, so I missed twenty years of progress in html. Just as they worked as web pages, my "deprecated" html worked just fine on the KDP (formerly called DTP). I have since pulled up my socks and got on board with the big kids. I still occasionally get the Epubcheck error, and if it mystifies me entirely, I post it here, and always someone has been kind enough to point me in the right direction. |
