CC no longer opens books in Nook app

I'm using CC 3.5.7 and the Nook app 3.5.3.5 on my brand new Samsung Tab S8.4

When I choose "Read" in CC, it open the Nook app, but doesn't open the book; it just goes to the Nook library page and I can see the book cover on the library page. It was working fine on my older Nexus 7.

I used CC to transfer the books to the SD card and verified they are in the android/data/com.multipie.calibreandroid folder. I tried using the Nook app in its default location and after moving it to the SD card with the same results.

FYI, if I use Mantano Lite or Moon+, everything works fine. I really prefer the Nook app to all the others. Any ideas?

I am not sure why it is behaving like that for you. It works for me.

Nook app: 3.5.3.5.ANDMBL (from the app settings screen)
Device: Galaxy Nexus
Android: 4.3.
CC: 3.5.7
CC folder: Calibre_Companion in main memory

I cannot guarantee that I have the same nook app you do because I had to get the APK from somewhere other than Google Play. B&N won't let people in France install from GP.

After installing and fighting a bit with the app to avoid registering, I tapped the library button. I next went to CC and selected a book to read. That book opened immediately in the nook app. I then tried with a different book and it opened, as did a third. I did see the library screen for a second or so while the book opened.

Are you doing something different?

Is your library on an SD card?

A CC debug log might help. It will tell me if there is anything acting odd when CC tries to open the book.

Thanks for the debug log and your explanations that came with it.

According to the log, CC successfully started the nook app and there were no errors. With the exception of the book being on the SD card, it shows exactly what I see on my device where the app works.

Does the nook app support writing (changing) the book in some way, such as changing tags, comments, or notes? If so then it will fail because your new device is running Android 4.4 (Kitkat), which prevents apps from changing files that are not in that app's private folder. If this is the case then there is nothing CC can do about it. CC cannot write books to the Nook app's private folder and the Nook app cannot write books in CC's private folder. If your previous devices did not run Kitkat then this theory is supported.

If the above speculation is correct then there are only four things you can do:
  1. Move the books to main memory.
  2. Root the device so both CC and the Nook app can write the books on the SD card.
  3. Use a different reader.
  4. Abandon using CC and use some other technique to store the books in the Nook app's private folder on the SD card.

You can perhaps test the above speculation by using a file manager to open a book. In the file manager, navigate to the folder on the SD card containing the books (Android/data/com.multipie.calibreandroid/files) and tap on a book file. The file manager should offer you the Nook app as one choice to open the book. Select it and see if the app's behavior is the same as when CC opens it.

Yes, my library is on the SD card, in the multipie folder. Email with debug log sent.

Thanks!
