Free (Kindle) The Dalai Lama: A Life Inspired [Buddhist Faith Leader Biography]
The Dalai Lama: A Life Inspired by Lynn E. Hamilton is a short overview biography of the Buddhist leader, which while it's not that deep, does cover his background and actions and important events throughout the decades, free courtesy of faith-based small publisher Wyatt North, who until this day I would have considered to only publish Christian-interest books.
But apparently they're willing to branch out into other spiritualities, although as a caveat to the Gentle Reader, it's possible that they're taking the "noble enlightened heathen" angle to this, as in old school times medieval Christians would sometimes argue that Plato and Aristotle and worthy pre-Xtian Romans were "deserving pagans" who would essentially have been Christians at heart if Christ's message had been around to reach them at that time. There is in fact a customer review which is pretty much to that effect, saying that the Buddhist message is essentially the same as the Christian one, just repackaged, and quote-unquote "The Buddhists have recognized the coming of the Christ a few centuries before His actual arrival." That may just be the Gentle Reader reading what s/he wants to into the text, but be warned that YMMV if you were hoping for a more Buddhism-oriented sort of book. Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK). Description What does the Dalai Lama's life teach us? Certainly, he is a sterling example of turning adversity into joyful service. But there is more to him than that. He is also a model of innovation and adaptation. He has taken the tenets of Buddhism and made them relevant to everyone. He has found commonalities in the teachings of Catholicism and Buddhism. His message is not just about personal happiness and good karma, it is also very much about respecting the earth’s resources, recognizing the equality of all people, and sharing with the less fortunate. He has said that, at ninety, he will decide whether his long series of lives as the Dalai Lama will end. As of this writing, he is nearly eighty. Will he live another ten years? We can only hope so. |
