Fiction Recommendations for stories with omnipotent beings as main characters
Can you recommend me any form of media (books, films, anime, video games etc) where an omnipotent being or nigh-omnipotent is a main character or one of the main characters?
Two good examples in my opinion is Dr Manhattan of Watchmen (excellent read with excellent character development) and pre-retcon Beyonder (interesting character but a mediocre story with many plot holes). Also another 2 good examples are the short stories of Issac Asimov "Last Question" and "Last Answer". Thanks in advance |

Some of the Harry Potter fan fics come close to having Harry as a super powered wizard. They are over at fanfiction.net and can be downloaded as ebooks using Calibre with help of the fanficdownloader plugin. RuneMaster by Tigerman is one of those tales.

For a significant portion of book #2 in Robert J. Sawyer's "Quintaglio Ascension" trilogy, Fossil Hunter (Wikipedia entry), part of the POV narration is done by "The Watcher", an ancient entity that survived the death of the last universe and used its abilities to help spread through the universe and accelerate the evolution of several developing species so that it would have some more intelligent life to talk to.
While it might not be to your taste (the main characters are intelligent dinosaurs in a pre-industrial society which is about to discover scientific enlightenment), they're very good books which were nominated for several genre awards. Also a bit of an acquired taste, but Steven Brust's "Paarfi"-written fantasy novels in his Dragaera/Vlad Taltos series, which are side projects done in the style of Alexandre Dumas's The Three Musketeers, especially starting with the "Viscount of Adrilankha" trilogy (Wikipedia entry), often involve extremely powerful sorcerers as partial-POV or prominent supporting characters in a plot that makes full use of their powers and attitudes thereof. For example, there's Sethra Lavode, who's a near-immortal among a very long-lived people and the oldest and best magic-worker among them and often ends up having to deal with threats at her level, including demons and gods, and Morrolan and Aliera, who are also unusually talented and prone to complicating situations considerably with said talents. Hope this helps, and welcome to MobileRead! |

Michael Moorcock's Dancers at the End of Time series. The original trilogy, at least. Set in the distant future, and most of the cast have essentially unlimited power to create whatever they like.

Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny. It won the Hugo Award in 1968 and is my favorite book by him. Unfortunately it is not available as an ebook.
