Hi everyone.
![]() Sadly, I had to get rid of it because the page-turning button was so stiff and hard to use that I ended up with a lot of thumb/wrist pain. I tried making the type as small as possible so I wouldn't have to turn pages as often and I tried alternating between my right and left hand (which just gave me pain in both hands), to no avail. I would love to get another ereader, with a more ergonomic design, but I haven't seen one that appears very user-friendly. I am a voracious reader and really miss the Cybook. ![]() ![]() |

I'm really sorry to hear that. I have found my Kindle to be absolutely wonderful and very user friendly, both in ergonomics and software design.
In fact ... I really love my Kindle (took it to a party with me last night and probably "sold" another few units as a result). However, I don't know if they are available outside of the US, and I'm sure the Whispernet coverage doesn't extend to there .... not that you couldn't use it without that. I hope you are able to find something in Canada that works for you ... and soon. I would be lost without a steady source of books to read. |

Hi caroline429 and welcome to the Forum. I have a Sony 505 which I like a lot. But have also had my hands on a Kindle and those page turn buttons might be easier on your wrists

I wonder whether you might have had a defective unit, if the buttons were so stiff?
Perhaps other Cybook users can tell us about its page-turning ergonomics. I find the Sony Reader buttons are easy to press, and can read for hours. |

Patricia is right. I find the 505's buttons easy to push and no problem for my wrists. There ought to be someone up there in Canada close to you that has a 505 you could try. Or, if you're close to the US border, drive over to a Sony Style store and try one out

From my personal experience, the Cybook's buttons do tend to be alittle stiff for the first few days of use, but do soften up quiet a bit after some use. Now keep in mind that I have the new Gen3, which according to others, has softer keys then the original.
I do agree that the gen3's ergonomics could use a bit of work, as it can require a bit of finger fiddling to use it one handed easily. The sony's are definitely better in this regard. However I do love the greater features of the gen3 so your mileage may vary as to what is more important. |

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions. Unfortunately, the Kindle is not available in Canada and even if I could get my hands on one, the network needed to download the books doesn't exist here. The Sony also is not available in Canada. Someone has suggested that I try the EB-1150 as it apparently is very ergonomically designed. Although it doesn't have e-ink, the ergonomics are the most important consideration at this point.
The buttons on my Cybook (I had a Gen3) did loosen up with use but they still caused wrist/thumb pain. I can't blame it all on the ereader, I'm no spring chicken and things just don't work the way they used to. ![]() |

I thought it was available in Canada now (the Sony).

You are absolutely right! I hadn't looked at the Sony Canada site since last December so didn't know it was available here now.

And - for what it's worth - I fully agree with you on the Cybook. I bought one from BooksOnBoard (great people to deal with, by the way), but after only a couple of days, I went back to my trusty Sony. I hated the button. Not only was it "sticky", but it's almost as if it goes to sleep. So, you have to make sure the little green light is turned on when you press the button, or no page turn. Fuggetaboutit! Miki |
