IND CS6 Paragraph Spacing

Hello! I am formatting an epub with InDesign CS6. I have used paragraph styles to set the space after as 10 pt. It works in preview mode but when I export there is no spacing between the paragraphs. (Original doc was html which I converted into RTF using Calibre; then imported into Indesign). I don't know what I have missed ... can somebody help please?
Thanks! Sue

Wow, that is quite some route to get to ePUB... If you have the HTML, you are already almost there. In all the editors you already import HTML.

Anyway, you need for your paragraph class a margin-bottom (or margin-top).

I just have to say that a 10pt space between paragraphs is going to make for some very poor reading. The result you have now of no space between paragraphs is much preferred.

Hi Toxaris! I'm practicing using InDesign and needed some material. What I don't understand is that I've set up a paragraph style within InDesign but it doesn't show up on the exported epub. I watched a tutorial on lynda.com and followed the same steps but didn't get the same results. Just seems redundant to have to set up a separate CSS when it should work from within the program.

Hi JSWolf! The books I've read alternate between using indents for each paragraph or putting space between paragraphs. I guess ultimately if I can get work out of this, the publisher will determine the style.

UPDATE: I've created a separate css and used that when I exported out of InDesign CS6 - that fixed my spacing problem. Everything validated ok. My epub shows well in ADE but I found a problem with the epub when I loaded it onto my reader. The internal navigation, which worked in ADE, doesn't work with my Sony ereader. Is that a compatibility error or my error?

I have a 650 and a T1. I've not found a problem where the ePub works in ADE (1.7.2 or 2.0) but not on the Sony Reader.

What sort of problem are you having?

Hey JSWolfe! Sorry to take so long getting back to you. The problem I encountered did resolve itself - I removed the book from my reader, restarted and then reloaded the book - it worked. Strange kinks that need level 1 support : )
