Long paragraph page breaks
When converting Sigil, epub to epub in Calibre and then viewing on ereaders such as Aldiko and nook, pages appear to break at long paragraphs. Can anyone suggest an html code to insert to prevent this when formatting in Sigil.

I'd recommend splitting files in Sigil instead: 1. Open the ePub file with Sigil and switch to Code View. 2. Identify the heading tag used for chapter headings, e.g. <h1>Chapter 1</h1> 3. Insert Sigil split markers using search and replace. I.e. Find:<h1> Replace:<hr class="sigil_split_marker" /><h1> 4. Select Edit > Split At Markers to split the file. |

Why would you convert ePUB to ePUB in Calibre when it is already fine?

Hi, Thanks for your response. The files (chapters) have all been split correctly and pages in the book do break before the chapters. It is the paragraphs that appear to split within the chapters that I am having concerns. <p is used as the beginning of each paragraph and </span></p> at the end of each paragraph. Could it be a font or margin issue?

It displays fine in googlebooks. I am sure there is a quick coding fix or maybe I am not selecting the correct details in Calibre. Hope someone knows as this is very annoying.

I have worked out the problem only seems to appear once I increase the font size above 14. I guess the problem must be in the style definitions in Sigil I am using. Any help would be appreciated.

This is possibly Widows and Orphans settings coming into effect with the reader trying to keep the paragraph together.

Tried a few different readers and some such as google, UB, ebook reader all work fine, whilst others such as aldiko and nook start to split paragraphs onto different pages in some chapters. It must be the difference between the readers I suppose but it would be nice to know why and try and sort out the code, so the book works perfectly on all epub readers. Maybe I ask too much?

No, but that is fantasy land. The specifications are setup very flexible. That causes that various interpretations of the specifications are all valid. Therefore what works on one reader will not work on the other reader even if they follow the specifications. That being said, not even all readers follow the specifications...

In the body CSS style, set windows and orphans both to 1.
Code:
body { windows : 1; orphans: 1 } |
