CC & Fire 8.9 HDX disconnecting itself from Calibre

I haven't read anything here lately addressing my problem. When my Fire 8.9 HDX is connected (CC v3.5.9) to Calibre (v2.14 x64), as a Wireless Device and "Device" is selected in Calibre (to view the device library), the Fire disconnects itself in approximately 5 seconds. The Fire will only remain connected when selecting "Library." This occurs only with the Fire and not other devices I use, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 10 and a Samsung Galaxy S5. Those all function normally. Note that I have purchased both Amazon and Google versions of CC and the problem is occurring with the Amazon version on the Fire.

The same thing occurred with the previous version of CC and version 2.13 of Calibre. It is very frustrating trying to manage my library on the Fire since I have to revert to my Calibre library with thousands of books to scroll through. All was working normally with the previous version of CC (Amazon) and Calibre 2.12.

Update: Now, I cannot connect at all. Below is the error log:

Spoiler:
calibre, version 2.14.0
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

Any ideas?

Thank you.

My Fire HD doesn't disconnect like that, so I can't provide suggestions other than for you to check that your fire's memory is not full. CC will disconnect if it cannot write to memory.

The exception only says that the device went away. It doesn't say why. I might be able to learn more if you provide debug logs. What would be best is for you to:
  1. Start calibre in debug mode. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=10 for instructions.
  2. Attempt to connect CC as a wireless device.
  3. If the connect succeeds (not sure given your edit), switch calibre to the device view. If the connect doesn't succeed, skip the next step.
  4. Wait for the disconnect.
  5. Close calibre. You will get the debug log in a window. Save it somewhere.
  6. Send a CC debug log (CC settings, scroll to the bottom) and the calibre debug log you saved above to me at cc_debug_logs at charles dot haleys dot org.

Thank you for your fast response. I had checked memory initially and it was showing about 70% available. Believe it or not, I have repeated my steps of yesterday and I am not able to duplicate the problem. Not one thing has changed but I am now able to connect, stay connected, and can select "Device" in Calibre without any disconnects. Although this is good news, something made the two misbehave and it would be nice to find out why so that others can avoid the experience.

I am scratching my head...

These are frustrating problems, to be sure.

My guess: intermittent wifi possibly caused by a neighbor using the same channel as you. Alternative: an A/V thought calibre was evil, but it updated itself and changed its mind.

Well, all my clueless neighbors are on the same out-of-the-box channel and I am intentionally on a different one. And my A/V (Eset) was temporarily disabled at the time. As mentioned, I have never had any problems with CC or Calibre previously so this is indeed a mystery.

Thank you again for your excellent app and support, chaley!
